West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee reviews Jal Jeevan Mission, vows action ‘if people face any problem’

The West Bengal government will take strict action against those not properly implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, Chief Minister on Monday said.

During a review meeting, the CM expressed her displeasure over the progress of the project. “I will not tolerate if people face any problem. If someone compromises on this, they will lose their job.” She ordered a weekly review meeting on the project.

A report was submitted to the CM by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department on the delivery of drinking water pipelines.

After looking into the report, Banerjee said that “many people are cutting pipelines to use them for personal purposes. As a result, water does not reach households. It is criminal. I will not spare anyone. In many cases even as the pipelines reach villages, there is no water since the contractors hastily installed them without conducting a survey. In some cases, wrong tenders are floated, in others the wrong DPRs are prepared.”

Telengana launches Farm Loan Waiver Scheme and benefits 11 lakh farmers.

The Telangana government launched the first phase of its farm loan waiver scheme, crediting Rs 6,098 crore into the accounts of over 11 lakh farmers with loans up to Rs 1 lakh waived off.

The scheme, set to be implemented in three phases, aims to complete by August 15 and will ultimately benefit around 40 lakh farmers, with a total expenditure of Rs 31,000 crore.
