Nat-Ranga Presents “Nolok”
Playwright: Amit Maitra
Direction: Sohan Bandopadhyay
Language: Bengali

Set against the evocative backdrop of the mid-1990s, Nolok by the late Amit Maitra unfolds as an intense psychological and philosophical exploration of identity, memory, and constructed truth. What begins as a seemingly innocent anecdote—a newborn’s playful tug at his mother’s nose ring—gradually transforms into a deeply unsettling revelation. As layers of nostalgia are peeled away through sharp analysis, the myth surrounding this act is exposed as a deliberate fabrication, shaking the very foundation of the protagonist’s existence. The play navigates the fragile boundaries between truth and perception, while simultaneously reflecting on the enduring values of humanity over material constructs. Under the direction of Sohan Bandopadhyay, it unfolds as an emotionally charged journey, blending investigative intrigue with profound existential inquiry, leaving the audience questioning the nature of truth itself.
