GPS Tracking to Be Mandatory in School Buses Across India from Oct 2025:
In a landmark decision aimed at ensuring student safety, the Government of India has introduced a new school bus GPS tracker mandate that will come into full effect from October 2025. According to the updated India safety rule 2025, all school buses across the country will be required to install real-time GPS tracking systems along with CCTV surveillance. This move follows a series of safety-related incidents involving school transport and increasing pressure from parents and education bodies for enhanced monitoring.

The CBSE, on Monday 21st July25, directed all its affiliated schools to install high-resolution CCTV cameras equipped with audiovisual recording capabilities. This new measure aims to enhance safety across school campuses and covers various areas frequently accessed by both students and staff.
The directive has been sent to all heads and managers of CBSE-affiliated schools. Schools are required to fully comply with the updated safety measures to maintain their affiliation with the Board.

The education department has issued guidelines for the safety of students.
A govt notification mandated the education officer to set up a student safety committee in schools which should talk to students to understand their problems and concerns.
All schools must install adequate number of CCTV cameras at strategic locations within one month.
Installation of CCTV cameras in schools and surrounding areas is compulsory for all schools. Govt and local self-government schools that have not yet installed CCTV cameras should prioritise it. They said that merely installing CCTV cameras in schools is not sufficient, it is also imperative to check the footage regularly.
