Let me talk a little bit about the renovation of the private ghat before going back to the main house.
It was a conscious design decision to not do a complete overhaul of the existing ghat. It seemed wasteful to do so, especially since it seemed to function well.
We took inspiration from traditional Indian ghats, where a number of steps are merged together to form platforms, which may be used to perform small ceremonies or to lounge around/ curl up with a book or a cup of coffee by the river.
It also made sense ergonomically, especially for the elderly, to sit comfortably and take a ritualistic bath, without actually having to step down into the river.
The long expanse of the garden towards the right, was used to add a wooden deck providing a space for early morning yoga by the river.
And the existing structure to the left, which was being used as a store was restored as a spa, where guests could enjoy rejuvenating therapies to the sound of gushing waters, thus engaging all of their senses.
Seen here, images of the constructed platforms on the ghat!
