महाशिवरात्रि फाल्गुन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्दशी तिथि को मनाई जाती है। महाशिवरात्रि का पर्व भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती को समर्पित है। इस दिन माता पार्वती और भगवान शिव शादी के बंधन में बंधे थे। इसलिए इस दिन माता पार्वता और भगवान शिव की पूजा अर्चना करने से व्यक्ति को सुख और सौभाग्य का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है।

Lord Shiva's favorite day

Maha Shivratri (the 'Great Night of Shiva') is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in reverence of Lord Shiva. It is also known as padmarajarathri. It is celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day of the Phalgun month of the Hindu calendar. Since many different calendars are followed by various ethno-linguistic groups of India, the month and the Tithiname are not uniform all over India and Nepal. Celebrated in the dark fortnight or Krishna Paksha(waning moon) , the festival is principally celebrated by offerings of Bael or Bilva/Vilvam leaves to Lord Shiva, all-day fasting and an all-night-long vigil(jagarana). All through the day the devotees, chant the sacred Panchakshara mantra dedicated to Lord "Om Namah Shivaya". In accordance with scriptural and discipleship traditions.
On Mahashivratri, Nish*ta Kala is the ideal time to observe Shiva Pooja. On this day, in all Shiva's temples, the most auspicious Lingodbhava puja is performed.
