WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026

When we talk about health, most people immediately think about hospitals, medications, exercise, or healthy food.

But here's a question:

How often do we think about the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil that grows our food, or the environment we live in every day?

The truth is that our health is closely connected to the health of our environment.

As a Medical Doctor and a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist in Training, I often remind people that wellness goes beyond what happens inside the body. It also includes the world around us.

The quality of the air we breathe affects our lungs and heart.

The quality of the water we drink affects every system in our bodies.

The food we eat depends on healthy soil, clean water, and a thriving ecosystem.

When our environment becomes polluted, human health pays the price.

We see it in the increasing burden of respiratory diseases, allergies, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic health conditions linked to environmental factors.

This World Environment Day, let us remember that protecting our environment is also a form of preventive healthcare.

Plant a tree.
Dispose of waste responsibly.
Reduce plastic pollution.
Keep your surroundings clean.
Conserve water.
Support initiatives that protect our natural environment.

Healthy communities begin with healthy environments.

At Springforth Health & Wellness, we believe that true wellness is about creating harmony between our bodies and the world around us.

Every small action matters.

Every conscious choice counts.

Together, let's build a healthier future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Happy World Environment Day!

FIBROID SERIES (PART 4)

TREATMENT OPTIONS: FROM MEDICATION TO SURGERY

Fibroid treatment is not β€œone-size-fits-all.”
The right approach depends on:
β€’ size and location of the fibroid
β€’ severity of symptoms
β€’ age
β€’ fertility goals
β€’ overall health
β€’ quality of life

Some treatment approaches include:
MEDICATION OPTIONS

β€’ Pain relief medications:
May help manage menstrual pain and discomfort.
β€’ Hormonal medications:
Certain hormonal treatments may help reduce bleeding or temporarily shrink fibroids.
β€’ Tranexamic acid:
Sometimes, it is used to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.
β€’ Iron supplementation:
It is important for women experiencing iron deficiency anaemia from heavy bleeding.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE PROCEDURES
β€’ Uterine artery embolisation (UAE)
Blocks blood supply to fibroids to shrink them.
β€’ Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
Uses heat to destroy fibroid tissue.
β€’ High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU)
A non-invasive treatment is used in some cases.

SURGICAL OPTIONS

β€’ Myomectomy:
Surgical removal of fibroids while preserving the uterus.
β€’ Hysterectomy
Removal of the uterus is usually considered in severe cases or when fertility preservation is not desired.

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER
β€’ Not every fibroid requires surgery
β€’ Some women have small fibroids with no symptoms
β€’ Others may need urgent medical care
β€’ Every woman’s journey is different

At Springforth Health and Wellness, we encourage informed decision-making, proper medical evaluation, and a holistic approach alongside conventional care when appropriate.

In Part 5, we’ll discuss holistic approaches to fibroid management.

10 Things I Wish I Knew About Managing High Blood Pressure in My 30s

If I could sit down with my younger self in my 30s, these are some of the things I would share about high blood pressure.

Not because I had all the answers back then, but because years of medical practice, naturopathic training, and working with countless individuals have taught me that prevention is always easier than treatment.

Here are 10 things I wish I knew:

Fibroids are not just random growths. Your hormones, gut health, stress levels, inflammation, environment, and lifestyle may all play a role.

FIBROID SERIES (PART 3)

RISK FACTORS, ROOT CAUSES & ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES

Fibroids do not usually develop from one single cause.

From a holistic and integrative health perspective, fibroids may be influenced by a combination of hormonal, environmental, metabolic, inflammatory, and lifestyle factors.

Some of the possible contributing factors include:

πŸ“Œ Oestrogen dominance:
Fibroids tend to grow in response to oestrogen and progesterone activity. Excess oestrogen or poor oestrogen metabolism may contribute to fibroid growth.

πŸ“Œ Insulin resistance:
High insulin levels may stimulate growth pathways and hormonal imbalances within the body.

πŸ“Œ Chronic inflammation:
Inflammation within the body may contribute to abnormal tissue growth and worsening symptoms.

πŸ“Œ Vitamin D deficiency:
Research suggests low vitamin D levels may be associated with increased fibroid risk, especially among Black women, due to its role in cell growth regulation and inflammation control.

πŸ“Œ Environmental toxins & endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs):

Chemicals found in plastics, pesticides, fragrances, cosmetics, relaxers, processed foods, and household products may interfere with hormonal balance.
Examples include:
parabens
phthalates
BPA

πŸ“Œ Poor gut health:
The gut microbiome plays an important role in hormone metabolism and detoxification. Gut imbalance may affect oestrogen clearance.

πŸ“Œ Liver overload or poor detoxification:
The liver helps process and eliminate hormones. Poor nutrition, alcohol excess, toxins, and processed foods may affect this process.

πŸ“ŒChronic stress & high cortisol:
Long-term stress affects the hormonal system, insulin levels, inflammation, and reproductive health.

πŸ“Œ Diet high in ultra-processed foods and sugar:
Highly processed diets may worsen inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic dysfunction.

πŸ“Œ Obesity & excess body fat:
Fat tissue can contribute to increased oestrogen production.

πŸ“Œ Genetic predisposition:
Family history may increase risk, though genes are not the entire story.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FIBROIDS

β€’ Heavy menstrual bleeding
β€’ Pelvic pain or pressure
β€’ Bloating or enlarged abdomen
β€’ Painful periods
β€’ Lower back pain
β€’ Frequent urination
β€’ Pain during in*******se
β€’ Fatigue from iron deficiency anaemia
β€’ Fertility challenges in some women
At Springforth Health and Wellness, we believe women deserve education, awareness, and compassionate support, not fear.

In Part 4, we’ll discuss treatment options ranging from medications to surgery.

FIBROID SERIES (PART 2)

THERE ARE NATURAL WAYS OF HANDLING FIBROID

One of the questions women ask most often is:

"How did I develop fibroids?"

And honestly, it's a fair question.

The truth is that fibroids don't just appear overnight. They usually develop gradually, often over many years.

Scientists and health experts have studied fibroids extensively, and while there isn't one single cause, several factors appear to contribute to their growth.

Hormonal imbalance is one of them.

The female body naturally produces hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are important for reproductive health, but when they become imbalanced, they may create conditions that encourage fibroid growth.

Genetics also plays a role.

If your mother, grandmother, or close female relatives had fibroids, your chances of developing them may be higher.

Then there are lifestyle factors.

Chronic stress, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, excess body weight, poor sleep, and prolonged exposure to environmental toxins can place additional pressure on the body.

Many people do not realize that the body functions as a connected system.

When one area is out of balance for a long time, other areas can begin to suffer too.

This is one reason why Springforth Health and Wellness focuses on natural wellness and holistic living.

We believe that health is not simply about treating symptoms when they appear. It is also about creating a lifestyle that supports the body's natural ability to function optimally.

Understanding possible causes helps us make better choices.

And better choices often lead to better outcomes.

In Part 3, we will discuss the warning signs many women ignore until fibroids begin to interfere with their daily lives.

Stay with us.

FIBROID SERIES (PART 1)

THERE ARE NATURAL WAYS OF HANDLING FIBROID

Have you ever met a woman who says:

"My tummy keeps getting bigger, but I'm not pregnant."

Or perhaps you've heard someone complain about unusually heavy menstrual bleeding, severe menstrual pain, frequent urination, or difficulty getting pregnant.

For many women, these symptoms are often brushed aside as "normal female problems."

But sometimes, the body is trying to communicate something deeper.

One of those conditions is Fibroid.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus). They are not cancer, but they can significantly affect a woman's quality of life, confidence, comfort, and even fertility.

What surprises many people is that fibroids are extremely common. In fact, many women may have fibroids without knowing it because they experience little or no symptoms.

Others may struggle silently for years, believing the pain, heavy bleeding, and discomfort are simply part of being a woman.

At Springforth Health and Wellness, we believe that no woman should suffer in silence.

We also believe that before talking about solutions, we must first understand the problem.

Knowledge is often the first step toward healing.

Over the next few days, we will be taking a deep dive into fibroids. We will discuss what causes them, the symptoms to look out for, natural approaches that support wellness, and how women can make informed decisions about their health.

If you are a woman, this series is for you.

If you have a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, or colleague, this series is also for you.

Women's health concerns all of us.

Stay with us as we begin this important conversation.
