Beyondbmi
Speaking on Down to Business, , founder of , reflected on something many people experience today: there is more health information than ever before.
That can be helpful. But it can also feel confusing.
When it comes to obesity care, trusted medical guidance matters.
The role of a clinician is not to speak down to patients, but to help make sense of the information and support safe, evidence-based decisions.
At Beyondbmi, this is central to how we care for people.
Speaking on Breakfast, Dr Harriet Treacy, our founder of , shared an important perspective on how we understand obesity.
Obesity is a chronic condition (a long-term condition that requires ongoing care), not something that can be “fixed” and then goes away.
Weight loss is often just one part of the picture. Maintaining that change usually requires a structured, long-term approach and ongoing support.
This is because weight itself is a signal of an underlying condition, not the condition on its own.
Understanding this helps explain why there isn’t a quick or simple solution and why long-term care matters.
Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast, Dr Harriet Treacy, CEO of , shared an important point about access to GLP-1 medications.
As demand for these treatments grows, it is understandable that people are looking for faster and easier ways to start them.
However, obesity is a chronic condition (a long-term condition that requires ongoing care), not something that can be managed with a short-term approach.
Access to treatment is one step, but long-term care and follow-up are what support sustainable outcomes.

If you have been on GLP-1 treatment during perimenopause or post-menopause and noticed that results can differ from person to person, recent research helps explain why.
A clinical study published in Scientific Reports found that postmenopausal found that women after menopause may carry more fat around their internal organs (visceral fat), even when overall body fat is similar.
A 2025 review suggests that declining oestrogen is associated with changes in fat distribution, increased inflammation, and reduced insulin sensitivity.
GLP-1 treatments are designed to support satiety signalling. However, the broader metabolic environment during menopause is different.
This means people can respond differently, even with the same treatment.
