Across Bali, thousands of people dressed in white walk together from their temples to the sea. This sacred journey is known as Melasti, a purification ritual held just before the Balinese New Year, Nyepi.

During Melasti, communities bring temple heirlooms and sacred objects to the ocean, where they are symbolically cleansed in the water. The ceremony represents the removal of negative energies and the restoration of balance between humans, nature and the spiritual world.
