President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA), Rafeek Khan, is encouraging Guyanese to view rising demand and high prices as business opportunities rather than challenges.

Speaking during a panel discussion on "Beyond Oil: Expanding Opportunities Across the Economy," Khan said there remains significant room for investment and expansion across multiple sectors.

"Do not just complain about high prices. Every time you see a high price, ask yourself if there is an opportunity to produce that product locally," Khan stated.

He noted that Guyana is still underproducing in several areas of the economy, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors willing to innovate and collaborate.

"We are underproducing in almost every sector. Whether it is housing, furniture, food processing or construction materials, opportunities exist for those willing to invest and collaborate," he said.

Khan also underscored the importance of partnerships and collaboration, noting that businesses can achieve greater success by working together to meet growing local and regional demand.

Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Kamrul Baksh, says tourism is emerging as a major growth sector alongside the country's oil and gas industry.

Speaking during a panel discussion on "Beyond Oil: Expanding Opportunities Across the Economy," Baksh noted that tourism should not be viewed merely as a spin-off of the petroleum sector.

"Tourism is not just a spillover benefit from oil and gas. Tourism is a parallel growth industry that has blossomed significantly over the last few years," he stated.

Baksh revealed that Guyana is on track to record more than 500,000 visitor arrivals this year, highlighting the growing demand for tourism services and experiences.

"The statistics do not lie. People want to travel to Guyana, but they need more than accommodation. We need more eco-lodges, luxury facilities and supporting services," he said.

He encouraged greater local investment in tourism infrastructure, transportation services and hospitality offerings to meet the increasing demand from both leisure and business travellers.
