Collidoscope Berlin
Collidoscope Berlin was founded by Sophia Burton and Kelly Miller in April 2013. Collidoscope explores immigration, diversity, and difference through stories and analyses that begin in Berlin but do not end here. Through the lens of migration, i.e. the movement and coming together of people, we can understand more about what makes 'us' who we are. Cities, as a reflection of 'the we', are a good pl

Thank you Eltabb members for joining us yesterday morning for such a fruitful workshop on migration, difference, and bias! We hope our discussion has spurred curiosity and a desire for continued learning.
To get you started, check out this interview with social psychologist Mahzarin Banaji on how our stereotypes of others can be transformed into something good. And, as always, send us your comments and questions (here, as pm, or to [email protected]).

NEW ARTICLE: Are women truly free to dress how they choose, in today's Europe or in today's U.S.? A trip to a Berlin nightclub might suggest that, yes, civil liberties include even that glittery bikini. But what about glittery headscarves?
Hijab is a global practice with representation in fashion and pop culture. So, why is it, among other forms of Islamic dress, still policed in Europe? In this article, we apply a little feminist and historical perspective to the age-old question of a woman's right to choose.

The GSBTB Open Art Shelter is setting up makeup workshops for women at the Tempelhof refugee shelter. “Not because we believe that natural beauty is not enough, but because we observe how important physical appearance and some make-up extravaganza is for the self-esteem of the women we work with.” They’re looking for makeup and cosmetics DONATIONS, as well as a MAKEUP ARTIST interested in joining the project.
"We are in need of foundation, powder and concealer in dark skin tones (which are harder to find), as many of our ladies have beautiful darker types of complexion. However, we obviously need all kinds of coloured cosmetics; eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, nail polish, well.. you know, everything that’s glittery, shiny and makes you feel like a million dollars!” Donations or new and nearly-new cosmetics can be dropped of at the GSBTB Office, Lenaustrasse 4, 12047 Berlin. (We also always need more fabric and wool for knitting and craft projects - more women are joining all the time!).
If you own a shop or cafe that could become a donation drop-off point, please email us: [email protected]
