The phrase “What’s up?” is a common informal greeting in English. It is often used the same way as “How are you?”—to start a friendly conversation. However, there is a small difference:
“How are you?” usually asks directly about someone’s feelings or well-being.
“What’s up?” is more casual. It often means “What are you doing?” or “What’s happening?” rather than expecting a deep answer.
👉 Example:
A: “What’s up?”
B: “Not much. Just studying.”
So, while “What’s up?” can be used like “How are you?”, it is mainly an informal and friendly way to say hello.
