EPISODE 15

"Please don't keep me waiting for too long. I can't survîve without you." Bako said to Amina as if he had been on a life support machîne when he hadn't even dreamt of proposing to her.

"Don't worry.... alright, come and eat you akara, it's already cold and it's getting late." Amina said.

She served Bako the akara and he ate it within a twinkle of an eye, fórcing Amina to ask questions.

"This one you ate this akara so quickly, you must be very hungry."

"Hmmm...my dear, you're right, I was very hungry."

"Ahahnn...but what about your wife? Didn't she cook?"

"That one? Forget her please. This is one of the reasons why I want to marry you. I am very sure that you will take very good care of me when we get married because that usèless woman I call my wife can't do anything right.

"She can't even prepare delicious meal for me to eat. I have been managing it like that because I am a peaceful man and I don't want her problems and now she has stopped cooking completely." Bako lîed without the fear of God.

"That's terrîble, how can a wife not cook for her husband. Kai...you must have sûffered a lot." Amina said, pretending to be sympathetic.

Everyone in the village knew how wîcked Bako was to Uwaliya. They saw how the once beautiful woman changed to a hûngry looking woman over the years.

Even though Amina was way younger than Uwaliya, she knew when Uwaliya was very beautiful and she had heard her story.

Amina knew everything, Bako was just fóóling himself.
"I just need you in my life." Bako said solemnly.

They discussed for few minutes before Amina insisted that they should go home but Bako was reluctant to go.

He wouldn't mind sitting there all night with his beloved.

That was how Uwaliya's lîon became Amina's toothless góat and he began to help her arrange the plates that she had used to sell akara that day into a big bowl and he didn't stop there.

Bako carried the big bowl on his head and took it to Amina house which was a few houses away from her akara spot.

He came back again and carried the big sack he had brought earlier and took it to her house again.

Bako didn't allow Amina touch anything so she went to her house empty-handed while Bako did all the packing.Written by Safiya T Idris.

At the end of it all, he got a hug from Amina and she promised to give him a reply soon.

He reluctantly left Amina's place but he was happy that he was able to hug his long time crush.
The next morning, Halima was waiting beside the well for her turn to fetch water when Hajara her friend came there with her bucket to fetch water too.

"Halima, where have you been? I came to your house so many times but your mother said...."

"Yes, I've not been around." Halima interrupted Hajara before she finished talking.

"Halima, are you okay?" Hajara asked worriedly because it was obvious to her that Halima was trying to avoid her.

"Hajara I am fine. It's just that my mother asked me to come back quickly because there is no water in the house." Halima said.

She knew how inquisitive Hajara could be so she was intentionally avoiding her so that she wouldn't have to answer any question she might have for her.

"Enough of this màdness Halima, come let's talk." Hajara said, dràgging Halima away from the people who were also waiting for their turn to fetch water.

"Halima what is happening, what's all this news that I've been hearing in this village?" Hajara asked and as if Halima was expecting the question, she lóst control of her emotion and began to cry.

"Oh no Halima, please don't cry, everything is going to be fine." Hajara said, hugging Halima. She pat her on her back gently as she tried to calm her down.

Hajara didn't have to ask questions again, from Halima's reaction, she already knew that the rumor flying around the village was true.

"Hajara, what should I do? Should I just kîll myself, I need to escape from this problem!" Halima said in tears.

"No no no... don't ever think of kîllîng yourself. Suîcîde is never a solution to any problem." Hajara said.

She was just a year and few months older than Halima but she had the wisdom of an adult.

"Okay, what do you suggest I do?" Halima asked, dèsperate for a solution.

"Ehm... But what is your mother saying about all this. I think she is in the best position to know what to do since I heard that your father is already in support of Alhaji Bello." Hajara replied, but Halima began to cry hàrder because she knew that her mother was not an option at all.

Hajara couldn't understand because her mother was her protector on earth so she thought that every mother would be like hers.

Hajara's father married four wives even though he was a farmer. He had two wives initially but he added two more the year he made a lot of money from his farm produce.

Problem started after he married his last two wives at the same time.

He would work in his farm from morning till night and sometimes, he hired labourers to come work on his farmland but at the end of the farming season, he would still get nothing, yet his wives kept competing with themselves.

All the women wanted to have more children for their husband and within a few years, his house was filled with children he couldn't take care of.

That was how Hajara's mother stepped in and decided to take full responsibility of her own children why the rest of the wives waited and fóught with their husband so that he could take care of his responsibilities.

Hajara's mother worked hard in the village to take care of her children. She helped people with their farm work, she also helped some làzy housewives with their chores for money.

If Hajara's mother was not selling massa today, she would definitely be selling something else, all because she wanted her children to enjoy beautiful things that she wasn't privileged to enjoy as a kid. Written by Safiya T Idris

Hajara had started going to the school in the neighboring village, all thanks to her mother who supported her. Hajara's mother was now doing well for herself and her children.
Halima was still crying when Hajara came up with a plan. She was sure that her plan would work out for Halima since her mother was not doing anything about her situation.

"What!" Halima exclaimed when she heard Hajara's plan.

FÖRCÈD TO MARRY AN ÖLD MAN AT AGE 14

WRITTEN BY: SAFIYA T IDRIS

EPISODE 14

Bako took a big sack and packed most of the things Alhaji Bello brought inside, including the Ankara (cloth) meant for Uwaliya.

He hissed several times as he arranged the things inside the sack. He was still very àngry that Uwaliya thought of keeping the money that Alhaji gave to her instead of giving it to him, her husband.

"Is she the one feeding herself in this house? She wants to keep the money just because of few times that contributed. Mtcheww" He said to himself and hîssed loudly before he fórcefully tîed the sack which was full.

He carried the sack out of his room and locked his door before he carried the sack on his head and made his way out of his compound.
Amina was chatting with two men when Bako arrived at her Akara spot looking stupîd with the big sack on his head. Written by Safiya T Idris.

Bako angrîly dropped the sack on the floor and moved to a corner with his hands folded around his chest, sûlking like a child.

"Ehm...you two have to leave now, I've closed for today." Amina dismissed her admirers.

Amina would only give her attention to any man that had more to give her and at that time, Bako was that man.

He had always shown her that he is interested in her but Amina didn't care until rumor started flying around that Alhaji Bello was asking for his daughter's hand in marriage.

Being an in-law to the richest man in their village was a big deal and Bako proved that right when he started patronizing her more and he also began to leave his change for her.

He even started giving her money for no reason. Well, there was actually a reason which would come to light soon.

Bako was so smitten by Amina, so much that more than half of the money Alhaji had given to him, he had given it to Amina and there he was again with the foodstuffs Alhaji Bello had brought for him and his family.

Amina was a 21 year old lady who had been married twice.

She first got married at the young age of 17 but the marriage didn't even last a year and she remarried few months later.

Amina's second marriage lasted for few years and she had a daughter before her second husband left her too and she went back to the street to search for another available vîctim.

It looked like Bako had made himself available for the victîmization.

He didn't think things through before chosing Amina or maybe he did but he was just blînded by her beauty.

Amina was just so beautiful, so beautiful that Uwaliya's beauty couldn't be compared to hers.

Beauty fades when it is not maintained, that was what happened to Uwaliya.

Amina was not only facially beautiful she had a curvaceous body and a backside that could bring any man down on his knees.

Her beautiful caramel skin tone was a delight to the eyes.

Amina was beautiful no doubt, a walking tèmptàtion to all the men in Gwarko.
"Ehm...Baba Halima you're here." Amina said, walking to where Bako was standing.

Bako remained mute for a while but he smiled when Amina began to caresse his shoulder.

"Are you àngry at me, haba baba Halima." She said sèdûctively.

"You know I don't like it when you talk to all these good for nóthing men in this village." Bako said, pouting like a baby.

Uwaliya's lîon was now Amina's harmless goat. They hadn't even started and it looked like Bako had been tàmed or maybe he was pretending just to get what he wanted.

Whatever it was, time will tell.
"They only came to buy akara, and why do you even care, it's not like I am your wife." Amina said, winking flîrtatióusly even though it was already dark and Bako could not see her face clearly.

"Ehmm... about being my wife, I have something to tell you but come and see what I brought for you first." Bako said as he held Amina's hand, leading her to where he had dropped the sack earlier.
"Kai...you mean you got all this for me?" Amina asked happily and she didn't even wait for Bako to reply before she jumped into his arms.

Bako felt on top of the world, oh how he wanted Amina! He believed that she was the medîcine he needed to get rîd of the uwaliya sîckness in his body.

"Amina, please be my wife." Bako seîzed the happy moment to propose to Amina and she pretended to be shocked even though she had already suspected it.

"Hmmm...Baba Halima, it's not like I don't like you o... it's just that I don't want problem from your wife." She replied quietly, pretending to be shy.

"My wife? What can she do? If it's about my wife then you don't have any problem.

"Uwaliya will never look you in the eyes I promise you that. Please forget Uwaliya, I don't love her, it's you I love. I am just keeping her in my house because of my children if not...

"Please let's forget about that fóólish woman. I don't even know why I married her, oh...I wish I met you first." Bako said and Halima laughed out loud.

"Okay, I've heard you, I will think about it and I will give you a reply soon." Amina said.

She only wanted to buy time to know if Alhaji Bello would marry Halima or not.

She would only accept Bako's proposal after Halima's marriage to Alhaji Bello.

Amina wanted to be sure that Bako would have the money to take care of her when they get married. Written by Safiya T Idris

If not for the financial security that she would be getting why would she want to marry Bako? He wasn't even her type, but she would manage him until she complete her mission.

Amina was already counting her chickens before they hatch, she had her own plans too and who knows, Bako may just be dîgging his own gràve next to the gràve he was dîgging for his daughter.

FÖRCÈD TO MARRY AN ÖLD MAN AT AGE 14

WRITTEN BY: SAFIYA T IDRIS

EPISODE 13

"Thank you very much for coming Alhaji. I appreciate everything you've done for us, thank you." Bako happily said as Alhaji Bello was about to leave the second time.

He knew that Bako must have checked all the things he brought, that was why he came back to be praised even after saying that he was leaving the first time.

"It's nothing. This is nothing compared to what I will do for you and your family after Halima becomes my wife." Alhaji Bello said proudly.

"Haba Alhaji, Halima is already your wife. She's yours already. It's only you that can delay the wedding if not ehn... even if you want to marry her and take her away this night, I won't mind.

"Why should I? After everything you've done for me? Alhaji, Halima is yours forever. Do with her as you wish, hahahaha..." Bako said, laughing hysterically like a màd man and Alhaji Bello joined him too as nàsty thoughts ran through head. Written by Safiya T Idris.

They shook each other's hands as they laughed.

"Ehm...has your wife gone to bed? Ehm...you know I didn't get to say goodbye the first time, that's why I came back" Alhaji Bello lîed after their laughter dîed down.

He didn't come back to say goodbye to Uwaliya, he came back to be praised by Bako and loads of praises he got.

"No, I don't think so, even if she is asleep, she must wake up and come bid our noble in-law a goodbye, hahahaha... Uwaliya, Uwaliya o.. Alhaji is leaving come and say goodbye to him."

"Yes my husband, I am coming."

"Be fast please, don't keep him waiting."

"Thank you for coming Alhaji." Uwaliya said as she walked out of her room.

"Thank you for having me." Alhaji Bello replied.

"Ehm...you haven't thanked Alhaji for the things he brought for us." Bako chipped in.

Uwaliya was confused because she had already gone inside before Ali started bringing the things in.

Now she had to say thank you for what she knew nothing about.

"Ehm... Alhaji, than..thank you very much...we... appreciate." She stuttered and Bako laughed to cover up, but deep down in his heart, he was disappointed.

When did his wife become a stutterer, especially on a special day like that one.

"Look, you don't have to worry about anything anymore okay. You won't lack anything as long as I am in your lives." Alhaji Bello said as if he is the creator of heaven and earth.

"Thank you Alhaji, we are grateful." Bako and his wife chorused.

"I will be leaving now, ehmm...here, take this." Alhaji Bello said, giving some Naira notes to Uwaliya while he gave Bako a bundle.

Bako and Uwaliya were grateful and they didn't fail to show their in-law to be how grateful they were.

Bako followed Alhaji to his car while his wife went back into her room, planning to go to the market the next day to get some foodstuffs since it was already too late.

Uwaliya was staring at her children who were in a pitiful state when her husband started shouting her name.

"Uwaliya! Uwaliya come out here, where is this fóólish woman." Bako bàrked as usual.

"Mijina, I am here, what happened?" Uwaliya asked, running out of her room.

"Don't you dare call me your husband again and what do you mean by what happened? Ehn....how can you call me your husband but you can not even respect me!" He thûndered, confusing his wife.

She still couldn't understand what he was talking about.

"What... what..." Uwaliya stuttered but Bako couldn't tólerate it this time.

"Stop stuttering! When did you become a stutterer? Shût up and give me the money that Alhaji gave you!"

"But...but!"

"You're stuttering again. If you continue like this you will go back to your father's house! What am I even saying, your father didn't even own a thatch roof hut before he dîed mîserably!"

"Haba mijina!" Uwaliya shouted in a tearful voice.

"Lower your voice before I slàp you! Give me the money right now!" Bako shouted and Uwaliya ran back into her room to take the money that she had already hidden under her old bag.

Bako snàtchèd the money from her hand immediately she came out of her room.

"Hope you didn't take anything from this money?" He asked.

"No." Uwaliya quietly replied.

"Ehn...okay go inside an lock the door." Bako instructed.

"But, our children are still hung...." Uwaliya didn't finish before Bako shouted again.

"Go inside and lock the door and stop talking nónsènse. Will they die if they don't eat only this night!" He shouted and Uwaliya ran into her room and locked the door before she would be bèatèn. Written by Safiya T Idris

She sat behind the door and began to cry her eyes óut as usual.

She thought that her husband had changed, she didn't know that a leópard can never change its spot.

Halima who had been crying quietly cried hàrder when she heard her mother crying.

She had also heard everything her father said to her mother because he was literally shóuting.

Her siblings were tossing and turning on their mat too.

What could she do than to just cry. Even her mother couldn't stand up to her father, would she be the one to try?

It was mission impossible for Halima.

Uwaliya and Halima should cry all they want, but their tears won't change anything. In fact, they should get a bucket to pour their tears in because that was just the beginning of their próblems.

FÖRCÈD TO MARRY AN ÖLD MAN AT AGE 14

WRITTEN BY: SAFIYA T IDRIS

EPISODE 12

"Halima, I am sorry about what happened earlier today. It was just a moment of wèakness for me. I promise that it will never happen again.

"I will be very careful till after the wedding. It's something normal but since you don't like it, I won't try it again. I will wait patiently until our wedding night." Alhaji Bello said, but he still went on to place his arm around Halima's shoulder.

Soon, the old man began to caress Halima's shoulder and it didn't end there.

He began to move his hands towards her brèast too and Halima who didn't want her father to get àngry squirmed under his evîl touch. Written by Safiya T Idris.

Alhaji Bello was just a hèàrtless and sèlfish pèrvèrt who only cared about his own needs.

It was not like he loved Halima, he was just a pèdóphile who was lûsting after a little girl.

"Hmmm..." He móaned as his hand brushed over Halima's brèàst.

She thought of prótesting, but when she remembered her father's words, she only tried to move a little without making it look obvious.

Bako was a narcîssîst who had succeeded in making his wife feel lèss of herself and only do his biddings and now he had also succeeded in mèssîng with his daughter's head too.

The poor girl couldn't even think for herself even though she was in paîn.

She endured Alhaji Bello's tóuch until she couldn't take it anymore. She had to suddenly bend down as if something fell from her hand and thankfully, Alhaji Bello's hands fèll from her body.
Ali who had moved away from them earlier kept hîssing as he was already tired of standing.

Meanwhile, Bako was so excited seeing everything Alhaji Bello had brought. A small bag of rice, a carton of noddles, some packet of seasoning, a carton of spaghetti. Some tubers of yam, a big loaf of bread and tea stuffs, Some yards of shadda fabric and some yards of Ankara etc.

It obviously meant that the shadda fabric was for Bako and the Ankara was for Uwaliya.

Bako almost dîed of excitement.

"If he could bring all this for me when he is not even married to my daughter yet then he will do so much more after they get married. Oh...I can't wait for this wedding to happen!" Bako thought happily.

One would think that Bako would call his wife to come and pack the things Alhaji brought into her room since they were mostly foodstuffs, but Bako being who he was, packed everything into his room including the Ankara without letting his wife see it.

He had his own plans in mind.
"I brought something for you." Alhaji Bello said when it looked like Halima won't be raising her head anytime soon.

He got her there because they were standing beside the car and she must move a bit before he could open the car.

"Here, I got this for you and I am sure you will like it." He said, shutting the car door before handing over something tîed in a big nylon bag to Halima.

Alhaji Bello came prepared to sweep Halima off her feet once and for all.

After the incident that happened at his place, he was even more determined to win her over so instead of going to the place where his land was being taken, Alhaji Bello went on a shopping spree for his in-laws in a big market very far from Gwarko.
"I am sorry but I can't accept this." Halima said, irrîtated by all his actions.

Alhaji Bello was disappointed, he wondered what the girl wanted. Here he was trying to please her but she was not having it.

He thought that she would be happy seeing that he brought so many gifts for her and her family but the girl looked like she wasn't ready to change her mind anytime soon and he was becoming pîssed.

If not for marriage what would give the little girl the opportunity to give him attitude.

Well, he would endure her nónchalant attitude until they get married.
"Okay." Alhaji Bello finally said and made his way back to Bako's compound.

Scared that he might report the matter to her father, Halima ran after him and apologized.

He was just a few steps away from entering Bako's compound when she spoke.

"I am very sorry Alhaji. Please forgive me." He heard her say in a tearful voice.

He smiled as he realized that he could manîpulate her to do anything he likes since he now knows her wèaknèss.

The girl was scàred of her father and it was a good thing for him.

He slowly turned around and faced her again with an expressionless face.

He handed over the nylon to her again and this time, she collected it from him without hesitating.

"Thank you." She quietly said but Alhaji Bello was not satisfied with that.

He suddenly hugged her and began to caress her and she could only shîver like a wet chicken whose mother left in the rain.

Bako who had packed everything that Alhaji Bello brought into his room was in there celebrating while his 14 years old daughter was out there being caress by a man who was older than him her father, and it was happening right at the front of his compound.

Though everywhere was already dark, passerbys could still see what was happening because the moon was shining brightly but Alhaji Bello didn't care and Bako would certainly not care too.

In fact, Bako who had already sold his conscience to the devîl wanted the villagers to know that his daughter would be Alhaji Bello's wife.
A while later, Alhaji Bello released Halima and decided to call it a night.

He walked back into Bako's compound holding Halima's hands and she ran inside immediately he let her go.

She threw the nylon by the corner of her mother's room, rûshed to her mat and laid on it, facing the wall. Written by Safiya T Idris

The tears she had been sûppressing were let lose and her mother who was clueless only watched.

Her other children were crying softly too because they were hungry and all Uwaliya could do was watch because she wanted to be the obedient wife who would only do the things her husband tells her to do.

FÖRCÈD TO MARRY AN ÖLD MAN AT AGE 14

WRITTEN BY: SAFIYA T IDRIS

EPISODE 11

When Bako got home, he made the house too hót for his wife and his children.

He kept thrèatning fîre and brîmstone until later that evening.

When Uwaliya summoned courage and decided to prepare dinner, Bako waited for her to make the fîre and she started preparing the meal before he kîcked the pot away from the fîre.

Uwaliya still couldn't say a word. Bako had that effect on his wife and children.

Instead of love and respect, they fèar him because he had decided to be a bèast in their lives. Written by Safiya T Idris.

Bako's younger children began to cry because they were hungry and they could not bear it like their older siblings yet Bako didn't care.

They could all go to hèll for all he care. Nothing really mattered to him than his own happiness.

Yes, Bako was that sèlfish.

Besides, he was hungry too, but he could still go out and eat Akara (Beans cake) when his wife and children must have gone to bed. They must feel the hèat of the mèss Halima had created.

No matter how late it got, Bako's Akara would still be waiting for him at Amina's place.

"Oh Amina, this must not happen to us." Bako said, almost in tears.

Whatever he meant, time shall tell.

He was still in a fóul mood when he heard the sound of a car at the front of his house.

His heart almost fèll out of his chest when he thought of who the person might be.

Bako didn't wait for the person to enter his compound, instead, he quickly went out to see the person.

His instinct was correct, who else would come to his house with a car if not Alhaji Bello.
"Alhaji, you are here? I was just about coming to your house again. I was there earlier but I didn't meet anyone. Welcome... welcome." Bako blàbbed immediately Alhaji Bello alighted from his car.

"My in law, you mean you came to my house. I am so sorry that I was not there to receive you." Alhaji Bello replied, putting Bako's mind at ease.

"If he is angry because of what happened, he wouldn't have called me his inlaw again would he?" Bako thought excitedly.

" It is okay Alhaji, no problem. Welcome. Good evening sir." Bako greeted with his hèad slightly bówed and his hand stretched so that he would receive a handshake from Alhaji Bello.

Alhaji Bello returned the favor with his head bówed too and his hand stretched for a handshake.

Bako was going to be his inlaw after all, so he just had to respect him even though he was older.

On the other hand, Bako was supposed to enjoy the respect he received from his supposed in-law without having to do anything, but there he was doing what his in-law was supposed to do.

"Come in, come in." Bako said as he led the way.

"Ali, bring everything at the back of the car bóot inside." Alhaji Bello said before he followed Bako into his compound.
"Uwaliya, Halima...Alhaji is here o. Come and greet him." Bako called out to his wife and his daughter as he repositioned the bench he wanted Alhaji Bello to sit on as if the position it was before wasn't good enough.

Alhaji Bello came to marry Uwaliya's daughter, so who was supposed to greet who?

Since money was involved, everything was happening upsidedown. The rules changed for Alhaji Bello.

Uwaliya quickly came out of her room and was almost on her knees when she greeted Alhaji Bello and he greeted her back, still sitting on the bench that Bako offered him earlier.

Alhaji Bello had a daughter that could be Uwaliya's age mate so he didn't think that it was necessary for him to respect her that much.

A few moments later, Halima walked out of her mother's room in fèar and greeted Alhaji Bello too.

She had to go down on both knees to greet Alhaji Bello when her father shóuted at her for not kneeling properly.

"Kai Halima, I didn't raise you like this fa. He is going to be your husband, so you should respect him even more than me your father." Bako said so many things while Halima remained kneeling.

"It's okay my in-law, Halima is just a child. She is new to this things, I am sure that with time she will learn." Alhaji Bello said, smiling as his eyes was glued to Halima. Even though the day was almost dark, he could still see her fine face.

The pedôphile just called Halima a child yet he wouldn't give up on marrying her.

A hypócrîte he was.

"No... don't say that Alhaji, she is old enough to know that she should please you whenever you want. I am sorry for her fóólishness, please forgive her. I am sure that what happened will not repeat itself again. I have scolded her for being stupîd Alhaji." Now Bako was apologizing for God knows what!

"It's okay, it's nothing hahahaha..." Alhaji Bello said, laughing nervously.

He knew what Bako was apologizing for and he was a bit embàrrassed.

He should be, because he also knew that he was being too forward.

"Halima, you should apologize too." Bako said.

"I am sorry Alhaji." Halima said, but deep down in her heart, she was so paîned.
Bako's heart leaped for joy as Ali kept bringing things into his compound. He couldn't wait to get a closer look at what Alhaji had brought for him.
"I will take my leave now. I will come here tomorrow with my people for the official introduction like we discussed." Alhaji Bello said as he stood up to leave.

"Okay Alhaji, we will prepare for your arrival." Bako promised.

"Halima, Halima... come and es**rt your husband to his car." Bako said to Halima who had gone inside to cry after her father made her apologize to Alhaji Bello.

She quietly walked out of her mother's room to avoid getting into another tróuble.

Her mother and her siblings would be going to bed on empty stomach because of her, she wouldn't want to add to their próblems. Written by Safiya T Idris

"Hajiya Halimatu Sadiya." Alhaji Bello hailed his wife to be as they walked out of her father's compound.

He was excited because it was dark already and he could just tóuch her a little outside. Not enough to scàre her away this time though.

Meanwhile, Bako was in the compound checking out the things Alhaji Bello brought for him without caring about what might be happening to his daughter outside.
