Instagram is about to launch a new text-based app to rival Twitter.

According to website reports:

‘The app will feature a centralised feed, allowing users to view text, images, and videos shared by followers and recommended accounts.

It will be a separate app but built on top of Instagram, and compatible with other decentralised social media platforms like Mastodon.

Each post on the app will be limited to 500 characters.

Creator controls and safety features from Instagram will carry over to the new app, ensuring account safety.

Meta aims to provide a space for creators and public figures to share timely updates about their interests’
