Bobbin lacemaking originated in the 16th century in continental Europe and has developed throughout the world, in various forms and in various centres, since then. Huge congratulations to Unagh McCullough who has been awarded with an MBE for her services to lacemaking and needlecraft in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours.

What a fabulous achievement and a superb recognition for our craft.

As well as doing so much to promote lacemaking, Unagh is also the author of 101 Variations in Torchon Lace which was published by ARDS Bobbin Lace Enthusiasts - I know many of our followers are enjoying this fabulous publication.

Well done Unagh!

We’ve travelled south to enjoy a few days in Dorset - what a fabulous area to explore! - and today we are at Poole Lace Day enjoying a lovely time as a supplier. Lovely to be here.

Dee Carver is here with her beautiful bobbins too plus we have a talk “Bobbin Lace and Textiles” to enjoy from Jan Tregidgo.

Visiting my bestie too as she lives not too far away makes for a perfect few days ❤️❤️

We are in “Sunny Hunny” Hunstanton over in North Norfolk today - and yes, despite what the weather forecast said, the sun is shining! We are attending Lavender Lacemaker Lace Day and what a fabulous room full of lacemakers we have❤️.

A fascinating talk given by Carole Morris of Spangles - if you hear this ever you will certainly start looking at antique spangles very differently!

And we remember Lynn Hallifax who was the founder of the event and sadly passed away last year. Well done to Alison and the team who have continued to run it -always a lovely day 💜
