MARCH EDITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION: A CALL FOR GREATER COMMITMENT TO A CLEANER AKWA IBOM

Yesterday, I joined the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), led by Prince Ikim alongside other key stakeholders for the March edition of the State-wide Environmental Sanitation exercise.

While I commend the agency’s relentless efforts in ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment, it was quite disappointing to witness a low level of compliance with the restriction of movement order.

Over 250 defaulters were arrested and prosecuted at the Environmental Sanitation Court in Uyo for flouting the directive. The Magistrate rightly expressed displeasure, describing this as a violation of public order. It is important that we all recognize environmental sanitation as a civic duty, not just a government initiative.

During the sanitation monitoring exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Muhammed Azari, assured that stricter enforcement measures would be put in place in future editions. He emphasized that non-compliance with sanitation laws undermines the Governor Umo Eno's vision for a clean and healthy Akwa Ibom. I fully support this stance and urge all residents to take this exercise seriously.

At Ikot Ambang Market, Hon. Moses Essien, Member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, expressed disappointment at the market’s full operation during restriction hours, calling for immediate actions to enforce compliance. The Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Chief Effiong Johnson, also highlighted the need for stronger citizen engagement strategies to improve participation in future editions.

As the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, I am impressed by the dedication of AKSEPWMA and all stakeholders involved. With the reinforcement promised by the Commissioner of Police, I am optimistic that future editions will witness greater public participation.

Let us all play our part in keeping Akwa Ibom clean. A cleaner environment is a healthier environment, and together, we can make a difference.

I encouraged the beneficiaries to seize this opportunity to enhance their careers and contribute to our community’s growth.

Together, we’re building a brighter, tech-driven future.

After the official inauguration, I returned to my hometown, Ekeya Okobo, where I was warmly received by family, friends, and well-wishers.
Their prayers, support, and encouragement mean the world to me.

This appointment is not just mine—it is for all of us. Together, we will pursue initiatives that uplift our communities and improve the well-being of every Akwa Ibomite.

I remain grateful and dedicated to serving you.

It was a great honor to stand alongside His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as I officially joined the State Executive Council.

I am inspired by his leadership and vision, and I am ready to contribute my quota toward advancing the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in line with his ARISE Agenda blueprint.

Together, we will work tirelessly to deliver results that improve the lives of our people.

With humility and a profound sense of duty, I took the Oath of Allegiance yesterday, pledging to serve the good people of Akwa Ibom State faithfully and diligently as a Member of the State Executive Council, and the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation.

I am deeply grateful to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for the opportunity to be part of his vision to deliver impactful governance.

I remain steadfast in my commitment to improving access to clean water and enhancing sanitation across our dear state.

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new chapter in my service to our people.

With a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility, I arrived at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, to be inaugurated as the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

I am fully committed to serving our people with integrity, dedication, and a vision to deliver sustainable solutions in line with the ARISE AGENDA.

The journey to a greater Akwa Ibom continues, and together, we will achieve remarkable progress.
