Lots of fun tonight - 40th birthday prestige Champagne tasting in Gerrards X. Fave all round was Perrier-Jouet Belle Époque 2004. Thanks Fara Carty for being a fab chief pourer!
Below are a few highlights from dinner last night. Two beautiful but very different reds. The Barbaresco was fantastic with venison with red wine & red currant sauce & the Rioja was silky smooth with lots of fruit considering its a 95. Very complex & long length. The Oloroso Dulce was outstanding. Not overly sweet, but rich & nutty. A bargain too at £16.99 for something 30 years old.
