Switchback is a completely different, intensive rehabilitation programme. We help 18-30 year old offenders to make real, long-lasting change after their release from prison. Switchback Trainees are four times less likely to return to custody than other ex-offenders.

New prison thriller WASTEMAN brutally shows the prison system’s ineffectiveness when it comes to rehabilitation.

Unlike many films in the genre, it heavily integrates the experiences and voices of real prison leavers. The result is an authentic look at the missed opportunity to support people in the justice system, which would ultimately benefit everyone.

Switchback and our Experts by Experience Board (EBE) consulted on WASTEMAN, with some men also acting in the film.

We spoke to director about the inspiration behind the film, working with Switchback, and what he wants people to take away when it comes to the current justice system.

We were incredibly proud to be part of charity campaign, platforming Switchback’s work nationally. These pieces show why post-prison support is vital, not just for individuals, but for all of us as a society.

Switchback Trainees spoke about boxing, food, yoga, film and football amongst other things - sharing the talent, ambition and potential of young men caught in the justice system, and why they're more than their prison sentence.

Together, these voices show what’s possible when people are given the support they need to build stable lives they can be proud of.
