From the early years of their youth, the two brothers Michael and Conrad acquired an ear for music, as their father exposed them to different music genres, ranging from rock steady, ska, rhythm and blues, to calypso, jazz and mento. Their first induction to reggae music began in 1974, when Michael, along with a few of his friends founded Maverick, a sound system. Maveric was quite successful, it f
lourished, playing across the length and breadth of the UK. Maverick also exposed them to numerous Jamaican pre-releases including Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Johnny Clark, King Tubbys, Lee Perry, Culture and Junior Byles, to name but a few. Moving on from there, Michael worked as a sound engineer between 1978 and 1981 for a local, Leeds based reggae band called Bodecian. The stint proved to be a learning experience, giving him an insight into song construction through the many gigs and band rehearsals that he attended. Simultaneously, the other brother, Conrad learned to master the guitar and familiarised himself with a variety of music styles such as The Beatles, Thin Lizzy and Gary Moore, Kenny Burrell, Joe Pass, Rolling Stones and Queen. In 1982, Michael along with a friend set up an eight-track studio that specialised in recording bands ranging from Punk Rock, New Wave and Heavy Metal to New Romantics, Reggae, and Calypso. He gained expertise within the studio in the micing-up and recording of drums, guitars, piano, organs percussions, vocals and other instruments, across different music genres. Moreover, the studio equipment of the time rapidly evolved, they were always on the ball, staying up-to-date, keen to understand unique band dynamics, in our aim to produce outstanding sound recordings for them. The release of our albums Moods of Dub and the Dubwise EP in 1996 is a creative realisation. It is indeed the culmination of our extensive music experience and prolific exposure to the world of dub and reggae music.
