Williams Club - Farnham
Membership is open to all visually impaired people living in Farnham, and, for as long as the member attends the club, we also welcome their partner as a visitor. The Club was started in the late 1950s by Mr Ben Williams and his sister Evelyn. They ran the club for 30 years until 1986 when they handed over to a committee. In recognition of their work, the club has been renamed “The Williams Club – helping Sight Loss in Farnham” Now about 30 people regularly attend our meetings.

On Wednesday 3rd June the Williams Club went for their Summer Outing to the Beachcroft Hotel in Bognor and had a really wonderful time.
You will see by the pictures that the Members went on the outing before the heatwave, so the date was chosen really well.
The Staff at the Hotel were lovely, and the food was excellent.
A big thank you to all who helped to create a really great day for the Members of the Williams Club

The Williams Club for the Visually Impaired of Farnham, July Meeting
The first day of July was a beautiful day to celebrate Summer for The Williams Club of Farnham. The Members Summer meeting, which we call Rita’s Strawberry Tea, in honour of one of past members, was held in the lovely sunny hall of St Thomas on the Bourne. This year we had two special guests, The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Graham White and The Mayoress Mrs Judy White.
The Members had a delicious afternoon tea which was organised by Monique Seager with the help of: Liz Owen, Rita and Hugh Bachelor, Gabriel and Natalia from Colombia, Gill Keighley and Maria Doland. The Strawberries were kindly donated by Tesco Community Champions and the excellent brownies were contributed to us by the team of "To Your Taste"
Jenny asked the Members and Guests to use their little grey cells when she gave them a dozen questions to answer that all related to Farnham, the clever winning team got 9 out of 12 answers correct.
Great thanks were given to Monica and her team, Peter, Shaun and Mike plus the kind team of St Thomas on the Bourne.
The next meeting of the Williams Club will be on Wednesday 2nd September at 2.00pm at the Baptist Church when it will be “In House Fun”.

On Saturday 18th April, Katie represented The Williams Club as the Guest of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Farnham at their Peace Dinner.
5 Charities received a Certificate of recognition for their work within the Community, they were Farnham Assist, The Food Bank, Hedgehogs, Farnham Lions and The Williams Club. The 5 charities had reserved tables.
There was a nice talk about Islam and what the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association are doing to stop wars, their philosophy is "Love for All, Hatred for None".
This was followed by a delicious spicy dinner.
The Guests were made very welcome and were very well looked after. The Community willingly answered questions – even the silly ones such as the lives of women in their Community and why they wear different hats.
Many thanks to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Farnham for their kindness.

The Williams Club for People with Visual Impairment in Farnham
On April Fools day afternoon, the members of the Williams Club Farnham came along to the monthly meeting at Farnham Baptist Church.
The April’s meeting had the wonderful Lauren Wayland the Curator/Manager of Farnham Museum. Lauren took us all for a tour through the amazing historical building of Wilmer House, home of the Museum. She started outside the building with the current work that is happening on the Grade 1 listed house. We were given a panel of bricks for everyone to feel what the new yet old bricks are like.
She took us through to the entrance, telling us about the history of the House and then painting pictures in our minds of what the Georgian rooms, staircases, windows, panelling, etc would have looked like, along with allowing us to touch some of the panelled carvings.
During her chat with us she handed round some of the artefacts from the museum, such as a Stone Age flint tool, an owl jug. She also passed some artefacts round for the members to guess what they would have been used for for example a pair of sugar cutting tongs and a cup for administering medication.
Lauren also chatted about the future plans for the Museum and how she would appreciate ideas from the Williams Club Members, of how to make the Museum more accessible to all people and possibly “road test” some interpretations/exhibitions.
After taking questions and chatting to the Members, they gave their rousing thanks to Lauren.
We were treated to a delicious tea provided by the wonderful team from Bourne WI.
The afternoon closed with the infamous raffle (with lots of Easter Eggs and Chocolate as prizes) plus best wishes for Easter Holiday.
