Who Dares Cares

Photos from Who Dares Cares's post 06/04/2025

And it's a wrap.

What a great weekend.

Iain aka Sully ( a Veteran himself) had the pleasure of joining members of the peer support team for Who Dares Cares , and "guided" the Troops on their journey with the 2 Day Nuco / SQA Accredited "First Aid for Mental Health" course.

To calm the nerves, Yes you all did amazing. so certificates will be on the way soon.

Thankyou so much all for sharing your journeys and stories, it was very rewarding knowing you could speak about these subjects in an open forum , so thankyou again .

To the Team at Stirling Castle. Thankyou for allowing us to use your beautiful setting. As Jason King said " it's probably the highest an Englishman has been in the Castle" πŸ˜‚ ( Aye Sully is just that)

For those that are unaware, WDC provide Peer support for Military Veterans, Blue Lights services and their Familes.

This support is NOT funded by anyone else but the Troops on the ground taking part in various activities to raise vital funding in order to support those that have Served their Country at home or abroad. Hopefully those with the powers , will consider WDC and how important the work they do, so official funding can be sought.
please pop to their page for further info , and should YOU need a chat, speak to them ! it costs nothing but could be the route to recovery.

Please remember, the team have a vast array of experience , Knowledge and TIME , but they can only offer advice and low level support. They can't diagnose, but are damn good at signposting.

So to a close, Thanks for having RVR Training along. we look forward to working alongside you aswell as the Walk, Talk and Brew events.

to many to say additional thanks during this weekend, so 🀩. that hoepfully covers that. Aileen Fell provided the culinary delights,
Jase won his tenner from Cammy ( it was a football thing) Iain Sullivan and Scruffy John Murphy were presented with the WDC Coin πŸ‘πŸ».

Day one of the MHFA course for a great team of peer support champions for Who Dares Cares

Beautiful setting that is Stirling Castle , Sterling, Scotland and a privilege to hear about people's lives and how they have dealt their life experiences with Fortitude.

Iain our trainer seems to be doing some
sort of hand animal puppet πŸ˜‚.

Significant mental health inequalities exist across Scotland. Around one in four people are estimated to be affected by mental health problems in any one year. Which is why improving the mental health and wellbeing of everyone in Scotland is a public health priority.

Who Dares Cares' mission is to support our Armed Forces and Blue Light Services personnel, including their families, who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However the team will support in any situation they can offering advice, support and signposting.

Thankyou for allowing us to join you all and see you tomorrow

RVR Training are delighted to be providing important Manual Handling training to Food Facts friends , who are a community hub providing affordable food, essential services, and a welcoming space to tackle food insecurity, isolation, and hardship within Midlothian.

They contacted us to ask about training their Staff so..

1.They Remain compliant under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992

2. More importantly to ensure that staff understand the principles and safe practices when moving, transporting or supporting of a load (including lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying, or moving) by hand or bodily force.

As we " get older" we lose a little touch with regards to moving items and get somewhat complacent and we even have that " it's ok i can manage " mindset that leads us into poor lifting techniques.

we only have one body and we need to look after it .

We will post pictures etc once the course has been completed so keep following us.

We look forward to seeing you on the 12th in Penicuik

alarming new research that shows that a third of Brits are afraid to give CPR to a woman because they are worried about touching breasts. And the same proportion, a third of men (33%) say they are concerned they will be accused of β€˜inappropriate’ touching when giving chest compressions to a woman in cardiac arrest in public - versus 13% of women.

A defibrillator can make a critical difference, as when used within the first three minutes it can increase the chances of someone surviving a cardiac arrest by up to 70%. The defibrillator has pads that need to be placed on bare skin on the chest area. On hearing this information, 38% of people agreed that their levels of discomfort would rise. Nearly half of the male respondents (46%) stated they feel less comfortable using a defibrillator on a woman knowing that they might have to remove her clothing, including a bra, versus 31% of females surveyed.
