Let’s create a Heritage Walk | Cardiff Humanists 02/06/2026

https://humanists.uk/events/lets-create-a-heritage-walk-cardiff-humanists/

As part of the Humanist Heritage project, we are creating a series of local walks to highlight the rich humanist history to be found in towns and cities across the UK, and working with regional groups to draw on expert local knowledge about hometown humanist heroes.

If you’ve walked past a spot in Cardiff and wondered about the people, ideas, or movements that shaped its history, this is for you. We wan tto create a brand-new humanist heritage walk, and we need your curiosity, knowledge, and passion to bring it to life!
Why join us?

Cardiff’s past is full of untold stories that resonate with our values today and this is your chance to suggest locations, themes, or figures that inspire you. Want to highlight a freethinker’s legacy? A secular landmark? A moment of social progress? Now’s the time!

This is a fun and very informal session, with no expertise required, just bring your ideas, a sense of adventure, and maybe a notebook.

We’ll brainstorm, map out routes, and start crafting the narrative for the walk. Your input will help decide: Where do we go? What do we say? How do we make it engaging for the public?

We're celebrating two huge milestones today!

Our education programme Understanding Humanism turns 10 years old – and we've officially reached half a million pupils! That more young people than ever learning about humanism as part of broad and balanced education.

When it comes to religion and worldviews, children deserve an objective and pluralistic approach. At it's best, religion and worldviews education introduces children to a variety of different ways of thinking and living, so they can decide for themselves what they believe.

Our programme provides educators with the highest-quality resources about humanism, so all young people can learn that being non-religious and holding humanist values is a worldview shared by millions of people across the globe.

We were outside Parliament today, calling out the betrayal of the terminally ill people by a few members of the House of Lords who have blocked the Assisted Dying Bill.

What a fantastic way to spend Earth Day, standing alongside so many incredible organisations at the Senedd, united in our commitment to a healthier planet and a fairer future. In the lead-up to the election, today felt like a powerful moment to share our vision for a better Wales with the candidates, some of whom will shape our government. The sun was shining, and the speakers were brilliant - not to mention the beautiful piece of art by Gus Payne.

It was so inspiring to see such a diverse group of people coming together.

A huge thank you to the organisers and to our Cardiff Humanists crew. Here’s what some of our members had to say:

“As a Humanist, I believe we have one life on this planet, and scientific evidence tells us it’s up to us to make it happy, secure, and sustainable for everyone. Today, it was powerful to stand with so many like-minded groups, all pushing for the same goal. We sent a strong message to the candidates listening about what needs to be done.”

“Earth Day outside the Senedd was a reminder of how interconnected climate issues really are. We heard some truly intelligent speeches, and now we need the same level of joined-up thinking and action from our leaders. The solutions are there, so let’s make sure our next government takes them forward.”

We’re already buzzing with ideas to bring back to Cardiff Humanists.

Join us for our 7pm Weds 8th April, meeting as we watch ‘Inequality: The Enemy Between Us’, a phenomenal session by Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson that was well-received at the Humanists UK Convention 2023.

We’re really looking forward to you joining us for some discussion.

What’s it all about? 👇🏽

If we compare health and well-being in different countries, it’s clear that some societies do much better than others. And the countries that do well on one measure, life expectancy, for example, tend to do well across the board, with better health, better educational outcomes, better community wellbeing, and so on. Countries that do badly on one, also tend to do badly across the board. This talk, at Humanists UK Convention 2023, explores the extent to which the question of inequality is central to meeting the challenge of creating sustainable wellbeing for everyone.

About our meetings 👇🏽

Join us on the second Wednesday of every month at 7pm for our friendly, informal humanist get-together. Whether you’re new to humanism, curious about ethical living, or just looking for a space to connect, you’re very welcome.

What’s on?
Each month, we explore a different topic or event, from lively discussions to planning campaigns and activities we can get involved in together. It’s a great way to meet people, share ideas, and take action on issues that matter.

📅 Second Wednesday of the month, 7pm
📍Where? Quaker Meeting House, 43 Charles Street, Cardiff, CF10 2GB

No need to book, just turn up. We’d love to have you with us as we build something new!

This event is free, but we welcome any donations, which help with the running of our group.
