*** UPDATE*** TRAVELLING COMUNITY - WEST PARK, ALDWICK - SATURDAY 3rd AUGUST 2024

The unlawful encampment of up to 10 caravans and towing vehicles remain at West Park in Aldwick. The Police and an Arun Councillor were in attendance on Thursday 1st August when the group were arriving and were immediately served by the Councillor with a verbal but formal “notice to quit”, acting as the landowner. The Police have carried out a site assessment, and although the travellers have indicated they intend to leave, sometimes they do not follow up with expressed intentions.

Colleagues at WSCC are aware and are liaising with the Police regularly on the matter.

The travellers should not be approached or challenged, and any anti-social behaviour or historic crime reports should be reported to the Police on 101. Any crime in progress or situations requiring an urgent response should be put through to 999.

Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council and the Police are aware that there is a holiday club due to start in West Park from Monday 5th August.

Travellers have this evening gained access to West Park in Silverston Avenue, Bognor Regis by removing posts and waste bins next to the Café and public toilets.

I have reported the incursion to Officers at Arun District Council, and to the Police.

Under no circumstances should you approach the encampment. If you witness crime taking place, please call 999 and report it immediately.

A further update will be given as soon as possible.
