New York Movie Awards Short Documentary Gold award has been awarded to I Make Lines, my film about artist Christopher J S Smith.
I first encountered Chris' current body of work late last year abd was immediately struck by both its simplicity and complexity. Although I can't describe myself as synaesthetic, the work gave me strong musical impressions, rather like looking at a score.
Spending a couple of days together in Chris' studio, Chris described his process of making as well as the philosophy that underpins his approach. I found the similarities between how we both approach and live our work almost uncanny. The film also explores the world through neurodiverse eyes.
