i love stories about frontiers, because that’s where i want to live.why do anything the typical way? the unknown buzzes everywhere, it surrounds us in all directions, within the depths of ourselves. everyone who says there’s nothing new either doesn’t believe it, or doesn’t get it. they’re really saying: nothing i’m willing torisk myself for.as if creation were an accounting trick instead of what it actually is: an act of pure love. yes, creativity grows from the soil of culture. lineage and originality need each other. together they form consciousness itself, the kiss of morning sun upon the pyramids, day after day. that’s not repetition or rhyme. to bask in it is to be alive.newness, anyway, is beside the point. the real question iswhere are you.have you found the edge of your map yet.are you pushing to expand it towards uncharted terrain.will you live at the frontier long enough to call it home.

this week of delights welcomes what doldrums the rest of society relegates to the dustbin of each year, unnoticed, forgotten, but like off-season madeira just as brilliant and bristling with possibility as any other time.

it is waking up before the shops open, before the crowds commute, before the sun surfaces, when there’s only you, skin still tingling from your brisk dip in midnight mountain lakes, writing your future by candlelight.
