The Flow Works is a creative ecosystem for those passionate about dance and movement as well as other art forms, promoting artistic practice as a path to personal and interpersonal development, aiming to make dance and other creative outlets accessible to a wider audiences. The Flow Works intends to encompass multiple activities, such as organising intensives for amateur & professional dancers, i
n-studio training & preparation of creative performances, hosting embodiment & improvisation labs, etc. The Flow Works is also interested in dance, movement and somatics research aiming to deepen the understanding of embodiment practices as key to enhanced well-being, both individual & collective.
*The Dance Company*
The core structure of the Flow Works is the eponymous dance company that collaborates with dance professionals and is also open to amateur dancers without formal professional dance credentials yet committed to the sustainable progress in dance through regular practice & rehearsals, with the view for future performance & other creative engagements. Through its performative creations the Company purports to engage in the socio-cultural life of the community, inviting the public to a reflective & enriching dialogue through art.
*Approach*
The Flow Works adopts a holistic approach to the movement arts and the moving bodies, combining dance training, the expertise of international and local teachers, in-studio practice, while being rooted in somatics, understanding of the body as a process, and more generally in values such as care and well-being. In this respect, dance is seen and practiced as a way of healing and nurturing the body, mind and soul, as much as a channel for artistic expression & aesthetics. At Flow Works we aim to create a spirit of community and family, a home for artists, where amateurs and professionals ‘rub shoulders’ with each other and where exclusivity is replaced with inclusivity
*Vision & Social Impact*
The Flow Works views art as an engine capable of driving political and social change, and creative practice as a channel to facilitate individual and collective transformation. In this regard, we view art as a form of social activism with a potential scalable impact. We would like to explore the potency of dance & embodied mindfulness as an instrument of conflict resolution/prevention, non-violent, embodied communication and of building organic interpersonal and transpersonal dynamics in the community. The Flow Works intends to initiate and engage in multidisciplinary projects which foster dialogue and collaborations amongst various social, cultural and business agents, bridging the gap between art, science, entrepreneurship and community.
