Entente Cordiale

As we enter the new reign of King Charles III, we are looking back at the impact his predecessors had on the Royal Collection.

This silver mirror, table and torchères (stands for candlesticks or candelabra) were created for Charles II, shortly after his Restoration to the throne in 1660, and displayed in the Palace of Whitehall. Silver furniture was popular for a brief period in the late-17th century following the fashion created in France by Louis XIV. It provided a rich effect in the royal apartments but also reflected the light from the chandeliers and candles in each room.
