Snow on Her Lips (2021)
A performative piece for a dancer, two musicians, electronics, and video, Snow On Her Lips takes on successive theatrical, choreographic, musical, and visual forms.

Guided by the monologue of Ophélie from Heiner Müller’s Hamlet-Machine, which gives the show its title, Snow On Her Lips presents an archaeology of the representation of women, the body, affects, and desire. Concealed behind a tulle curtain like an imaginary confessional, the performer Emma Terno—with her fragmented body and face—pilots an immersive audiovisual environment via a facial recognition system, from which she attempts to extricate and individuate herself in order to free herself from the representations that constrain her.

From Giotto to Dargas, from Caravaggio to Marcel Duchamp, Snow On Her Lips scans the history of art through a unique relationship to painting, as well as to ASMR, Instagram filters, and the ghostly presence of glitch (a malfunction in a computer's electronic circuit causing failure) that unveils the technological simulacrum of narcissism.
