Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. Inside Out started in 2011 with a simple idea: take a portrait, print it large, and paste it somewhere your community can see it. Since then, 600,000 people in 154 countries have done exactly that. Teachers have brought it into classrooms, students have gotten in front of the camera and decided how they wanted to be seen, and the results have gone up on school walls and yards.
The Project gives students a way to explore what they care about and turn it into something visible. Not a classroom exercise that stays inside the room. Something the whole community walks past.
