Brewing is a traditional art in Finland, it is very difficult to find old-fashioned products such as ales Sahti, a traditional craft beer of the country that is prepared with rye and other cereals, seasoned with juniper sprigs and berries. Nowhere else in the world is a product made commercially of another similar product. However, both the Swedish island of Gotland and the Estonian Saaremaa make local versions known respectively as Gotlandsricka and Koduölu. The existence of brewpubs and microbreweries is very recent, but little by little they are implanted.
The first legal brewery to settle in Finland was Hartwall Brewery goes back to 1836, not only in Finland but in all the Nordic countries since it was the only macro brewery among all these countries.
