Another beautiful early-December tour story from Prague ✨

Back in February 2025, Tim from Pennsylvania reached out to secure a December tour for himself and his wife Cathy. He came to me through a personal recommendation from my dear friend Emily — a fantastic guide in Budapest. (And yes, I truly believe great guides should support one another 🤍.)

Tim and Cathy were preparing for a Danube river cruise with Viking, traveling from Bavaria to Budapest, and decided to add Prague before the cruise. We planned a 4-hour private tour with a car, designed as a perfect complement to their Viking experience.

That morning, we met at the Hilton Hotel and — within just a few minutes — reviewed what they had already seen with Viking the day before. From there, we filled every moment with discovering new corners, viewpoints, stories, and atmospheres that hadn’t yet crossed their path. This is exactly why I love private tours: flexibility, flow, and truly personal pacing.

And because it was already Advent season, we ended our time together at a Christmas market 🎄 — surrounded by twinkling lights, the scent of roasted chestnuts, cups of mulled wine, and that unmistakable festive warmth that makes Prague so special in winter.

December in Prague has its own magic ✨
And sometimes… its own chaos too 😄

On the evening of St. Nicholas Eve 🎅🏼, I spent a wonderful full day with four friends from Maryland — Sue, Greg, Ellen, and Steve — who decided to add Prague to their Danube river cruise with Viking, sailing from Regensburg to Budapest 🚢.

What originally began as a 4-hour tour request quickly evolved — already during our e-mail exchange, before the tour — into a full-day private experience with a car, once they realized how much there is to see, feel, taste, and truly understand in Prague 🇨🇿.

Now, full honesty: that day was what we Czechs call “one of those days.”
I arrived at their hotel literally at the very last minute (running like Fantomas 🏃‍♀️💨), and at the end of the day I discovered I had accidentally charged them entrance fees they had already paid themselves — so yes, I ran back to the hotel to return the money 🙈.

Did they mind?
Not at all. They just smiled — kindness and grace at its best 💙

We explored Prague’s highlights — occasionally bumping into St. Nicholas, devils, and angels roaming the streets 🎅🏼😈👼 — enjoyed a classic Czech lunch at Restaurant Norbert at Strahov 🍽️, and of course tasted excellent Czech beer from their local microbrewery 🍺.

And here’s my favorite part:
These two lovely couples are in-laws — sharing two grandchildren (4 years and 18 months) 👶👶. Which naturally led me to convince them that the grandchildren must receive a little Czech Mole (Krteček) 🐾 — preferably with a book like The Mole and His Trousers or The Mole and the Little Car.
We even talked about Czech puppets especially Spejbl & Hurvínek — a tradition enjoyed by my grandparents, parents, myself, and later my own children 🎭.

Moments like this are exactly why I love being a guide.
