Papia was born in a village in Bengal. She hailed from a noble blue blood background but loved her village soil from the early years and spent most of her times with the musical clan of singers & practitioners called ''bauls''. Later, she got initiated by diksha by Pandit Baul Samrat Purna Das Baul, followed by Shiksa Guru Sadhon Bairagi. She believes that more she tries to learn about the path of the bauls, more she finds the pleasure of the hidden unending treasures.
