Massive Illicit Drug Destruction in Buea
In a significant blow to drug trafficking in Cameroon, approximately 22 tons of illicit drugs were destroyed in Buea, South West Region, on November 12, 2025. The burning took place at the Missaka dump site, located next to National Road 8, which connects Buea to Kumba.
Custom authorities revealed that the seized drugs were confiscated from Edenau and Bota, dating back to 2020. The destroyed substances are believed to have either expired or are of questionable quality, posing a significant threat to public health and safety.
This operation demonstrates the government's commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse in the region. Similar operations have been carried out in other parts of Africa, including Ghana, where over GH¢12.6 million worth of illicit drugs were destroyed in August 2025.
The destruction of these illicit drugs sends a strong message to those involved in the drug trade, emphasizing that such activities will not be tolerated.
