Buea Mountain Hotel Workers Protest Over 7 Months of Unpaid Salaries, Demand Employment Contracts
Workers at Buea Mountain Hotel have staged a protest, demanding the payment of seven months of outstanding salaries and the immediate issuance of formal employment contracts.
The aggrieved workers allege that while some employees have served the hotel for as long as seven years, they have never been offered formal contracts, leaving them without job security and employment benefits.
The protesters are also calling for improved working conditions, saying the prolonged salary delays have left many of them struggling to meet their daily needs.
Buea Mountain Hotel, one of the South West Region's most renowned hospitality establishments, has for decades been a landmark destination for tourists, business travellers and conference guests due to its strategic location on the slopes of Mount Cameroon.
As of the time of publication, the hotel's management had not publicly responded to the workers' allegations.

Cameroon Launches Long-Acting Injectable HIV Prevention Drug
Cameroon has taken another significant step in the fight against HIV with the official launch of the pilot phase of long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), known as Cabotegravir Long-Acting (CAB-LA).
The launch ceremony took place in Douala under the coordination of the Ministry of Public Health, with financial support from CARE Cameroon.
Unlike the daily oral PrEP, CAB-LA is a long-acting injectable medication that provides protection against HIV infection for up to two months with a single injection, offering a more convenient prevention option for people at substantial risk of contracting the virus.
Health officials say the pilot phase will help assess the implementation of the new HIV prevention strategy before a possible nationwide rollout, marking another milestone in Cameroon’s efforts to reduce new HIV infections.
