As we celebrate International Week to Protect Education from Attack, Community Vision Group (CVG) joins the the International Community to protect and promote education from Cameroon.
As we pause to honour the bravery of our teachers, children, parents, administrators, and every stakeholder who continue to stand strong in the face of adversity, we remain conscious of the fact that Education is a right, not a privilege. We must enable this right and ensure that every child has access to it.
However, in many parts of the world and right here in Cameroon, this right has been under threat for the past 8 years in the North West and South West Regions. Violence, fear, and attacks on schools have robbed children of their dreams and strip the society of its future.
But together, we can change this story. Every effort you make, whether by supporting safe learning spaces, encouraging a child to go to school, or speaking out against violence helps to protect education and keep hope alive.
Let us commit to ensuring that no child has to fear for their life when all they want is to learn, grow, and dream.
You too can take action today. With just 250 FCFA, you can support our School Feeding Programme which is pulling thousands of children back to the classroom in thet North West Region of Cameroon.

On June 10, our dedicated volunteers in Bamenda took to the airwaves at Dream FM for an impactful radio talk, raising awareness on the critical importance of the hepatitis B birth dose and its role in safeguarding infant health.
During the session, the team shared key information on:
✅ Timely Administration – The hepatitis B birth dose should be administered within 24 hours of birth, especially for infants born to hepatitis B positive mothers.
✅ Proper Vaccine Handling – Healthcare providers must ensure safe storage and handling for maximum effectiveness.
✅ Parental Involvement – Parents were encouraged to stay informed and actively discuss vaccination schedules with healthcare professionals.
✅ Myth Busting – Common misconceptions around vaccine safety and necessity were addressed, with an emphasis on the proven safety and long-term health benefits of the vaccine.
✅ Community Engagement – The team highlighted the power of outreach activities, workshops, and collaboration with local health providers in spreading awareness.
✅ Side Effects & Accessibility – Minor side effects like soreness or low-grade fever were acknowledged, but the benefits far outweigh the risks. The vaccine is often provided free through public health programs.
✅ Long-term Protection – When administered correctly as part of the full vaccination series, the hepatitis B vaccine can provide lifelong immunity, significantly reducing the risk of chronic liver disease and liver cancer.

As part of our advocacy efforts, we took to the streets of Bambui and Bambili in the Tubah Subdivision to continue our campaign, raising awareness to over 3000 people on the importance of the hepatitis B birth dose vaccine.
This outreach effort targeted the entire population of the municipality, with a particular focus on pregnant women and lactating mothers. We emphasized the critical need for timely administration of the birth dose—within 24 hours after birth—to ensure effective protection of newborns from the hepatitis B virus.
Recognizing that Tubah is a semi-urban area where traditional home births are still common, our campaign also engaged traditional birth attendants. We highlighted their vital role in encouraging mothers to vaccinate their babies immediately after birth, regardless of the setting.
The community was further educated on where and how to access the birth dose vaccine, and we reinforced the importance of sharing only accurate, evidence-based information when discussing hepatitis B and its prevention. To boost the reach and impact of our message, we distributed posters and flyers throughout the municipality to help support the dissemination of information.
This campaign is a step forward in our collective responsibility to protect future generations. Together, by prioritizing timely vaccination and spreading the right information, we can eliminate hepatitis B transmission from birth and build a healthier community.

Our advocacy efforts continues in the Ndu municipality, with our team undertaking door-to-door awareness campaigns to educate the public about Hepatitis B and the significance of the Birth Dose vaccine, focusing particularly on pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and healthcare professionals, with the objective of increasing screening, vaccine coverage and facilitate timely, routine vaccination within 24 hours of birth.
Globally, 296 million individuals are living with chronic hepatitis B, including 6 million children under the age of 5, with 4.3 million residing in Africa. In 2021, only 17% of newborns in Africa received the timely hepatitis B birth dose vaccine (Shimakawa et al., 2022). In response to these alarming rates, the World Health Organization is focusing on eliminating mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) through the implementation of the hepatitis B birth dose as one of its key strategies to reduce the burden of the virus.
In Cameroon, research suggests that approximately 2.250,000 individuals were infected with the hepatitis B virus in 2013, yet only 1500 linked to care and received treatment (Bigna et al., 2017). This disparity is attributable to multiple factors, including a lack of knowledge and the unavailability of accurate information, rendering awareness-raising crucial in mitigating MTCT and ultimately eliminating hepatitis B in Cameroon.
With one of our project objectives being to increase by 90% the number of pregnant women, women of child bearing age and their families being screened by the end of 2025, continuous grass root sensitization is vital so even the most remote parts of the country have access to vital information about hepatitis b, screening campaigns, the adult vaccine and most importantly the birth dose vaccines.
Give newborns a healthy start with the hepatitis b vaccine in the first 24 hours.
