The idea of the so-called Hyperloop was unveiled by SpaceX founder Elon Musk back in 2013. It proposes a novel high-speed ground system allowing you to travel from Zürich to Berlin in 40 minutes. As neither SpaceX nor Tesla is developing a commercial Hyperloop themselves, they announced an open competition, gearing towards university students to design and construct the best Hyperloop pod. Last Saturday, Swissloop took on the SOLA Stafette! 🏃‍♂️💨

Our 14-runner team covered a total of 113km and tackled 2600m of elevation across the greater Zurich area. Each of the 14 stages ranged from 3.7 to 14 km — and together, we conquered them all. 💪🔥

Once again, this proved that what seems impossible alone becomes possible as a team. 🚀

Meet Tim Limacher, our lower pressure cabin structural integrity mechanical engineer – also known as Limi or also, Cabin Crew. Fun fact: he’s a DJ at ETH parties and once hiked 120 km in 21 hours. When he’s not working on the pod, he’s behind the decks mixing tracks for the next ETH party. His go-to food? Pizza, of course. His best Swissloop moment so far? The time he unexpectedly beat Brian (the coach) in ping-pong on his first try. And his favorite song while designing the structures: Pizza by Martin Garrix. 🍕🎶

Meet Gregor Fust, our power electronics engineer – or as some call him, Roger. Fun fact: he holds the record for the most nights spent in the hangar for Swissloop 2025. When he’s not working on the pod, he likes to go jogging. His go-to snack? Honigreiswaffeln from Alnatura. His best Swissloop moment so far? Flashing the new FPGA control board via USB-C. And right now, you’re listening to his favorite debugging song: Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. 🍓🎶

Meet Yannik Trüssel, our levitation engineer – also known as ✨horizontally static man✨ or just Trüssel. Fun fact: he’s actually a firefighter! When he’s not working on the pod, he’s probably doing some kind of sport - whether it’s running marathons, hitting the gym, playing handball, windsurfing, skiing, snowboarding, or cycling. His favorite treat? Linzertorte. His best Swissloop moment so far? When the levitation coils finally arrived. And his favorite song while writing the controls-: Kiruna by Nora Van Elken. 🚀🔥

Meet Tanner Greenleaf, our cooling and pressure regulation engineer – or as Swissloopers call him, Tanner-Lee. Fun fact: he claims he’s not half bad at an Australian accent… and he can beatbox. When he’s not working on the pod, he loves being out on his mountain bike. His favorite dessert? Concorde cake. His best Swissloop moment so far? When Brian (the coach) finally approved his PCB. And his favorite CAD-designing song: Kingdom of Darkness by Sutura. 🎶🚴‍♂️
