One year ago today my mother died. It feels like yesterday other than the fact that i'm able to talk about it - so the immediate pain has dulled a bit. After she passed we came home and I realized i had her jewelry on me. Throughout her treatment her jewelry was always top of mind - where is it? where did she put it? and she would wear it whenever possible. I stood there with it all in my hand and it seemed to still buzz with her energy i took a picture of it to remember that energy or hold onto it. This jewelry was a source of strength and pride and protection for my mother - i had a momentary panicked thought she would be wondering where it was and then realized again the painful truth.
her rings are here -a tribute to the almost 50 years of marriage to my father. there were many pieces i gave to her- a perk of the job- she was head beneficiary of jewelry gifts and she loved them- and i loved giving them to her. Her favorite was a winged talisman made for her - the butterfly wings represent the soul and a light that cannot be extinguished. On one wing is her initial and on the other those of her loved ones , me , dad and my sister her husband and children. Today my sister wears these as we hold on tightly to her light.

For years, I’d been pitching “Diamonds at the Diner” (our working title) to Stellene Volandes — and for the 180th anniversary of Town & Country, we finally brought it to life.
It’s an ode to the Upper East Side diner culture we both love: the high-low mix, ordinary lunches in one of the world’s most luxurious zip codes, and jewelry in its natural habitat — glinting on Madison Avenue over coffee and club sandwiches.
Inspired by institutions like Viand, Three Guys, and Nectar, however shooting on site with millions of dollars in jewels and a lunch rush proved impossible, so my longtime collaborator built an entire diner inside the tower- for those looking to stop in for a bite-sorry was one day only.
So grateful to the brilliant for shooting it, for producing and ultimately to for seeing the vision from the very beginning and giving me the opportunity to create images I’m immensely proud of.
