Our organization UCCND ASBL had the honor of responding to the invitation from the University of Goma, in partnership with the organization ALLEN +, on the occasion of the official launch ceremony of the Ecological Brigade within the university.

This initiative is part of the Youth Climate Activists program and reflects the University of Goma's commitment to train, mobilize, and engage university youth in the face of the climate challenges facing the region.

On this occasion, Ms. Lysa BINDU, Head of the Environmental and Climate Education Department at UCCND ASBL, spoke about the essential contribution of the female voice in the fight against climate change. She encouraged women and young girls to actively participate in this dynamic, in the service of biodiversity protection, particularly that of the Virunga National Park, and socio-environmental justice in favor of local communities.

Through this participation, we reaffirm our commitment to work alongside the University of Goma, our partner ALLEN +, and other stakeholders, to train, innovate, and inspire a new generation of young leaders capable of taking concrete action in response to local climate challenges, and to contribute to a fairer, more equitable, and sustainable future.

Notre organisation UCCND ASBL a eu l’honneur de répondre à l’invitation de l’Université de Goma, en partenariat avec l’organisation ALLEN +, à l’occasion de la cérémonie officielle de lancement de la Brigade écologique au sein de l’université.

Cette initiative s’inscrit dans le cadre du programme Jeunes Activistes du Climat et reflète la volonté de l’Université de Goma de former, mobiliser et engager la jeunesse universitaire face aux défis climatiques auxquels la région est confrontée.

À cette occasion, Madame Lysa BINDU, Chargée du Département d’éducation environnementale et climatique au sein de l’UCCND ASBL, est intervenue sur la contribution essentielle de la voix féminine dans la lutte contre le changement climatique. Elle a encouragé les femmes et les jeunes filles à s’impliquer activement dans cette dynamique, au service de la protection de la biodiversité, notamment celle du Parc National des Virunga, et de la justice socio-environnementale en faveur des communautés locales.

Par cette participation, nous réaffirmons notre engagement à travailler aux côtés de l’Université de Goma, de notre partenaire ALLEN + et d’autres acteurs, pour former, innover et inspirer une nouvelle génération de jeunes leaders capables d’agir concrètement face aux défis climatiques locaux, et de contribuer à un avenir plus juste, plus équitable et durable. 📸 : Université de Goma / ALLEN+

🌍 January 24 | International Day of Education

Around the Virunga National Park, education has a special flavor. Here, learning also means understanding our surroundings: the forest, water, biodiversity... and the climate challenges that affect our communities.

This year, the theme is: "The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education."

At UCCND ASBL, we see every day that young people are not just the future. They are already a force for action today.

In the schools along the park, we work with teachers and students to make environmental education simple, concrete, and useful:

✅ Capacity-building workshops for teachers

✅ Raising students' awareness of Virunga's biodiversity

✅ Practical actions: planting trees in schools and villages; a child who plants a tree never forgets this gesture.

It's small... but it changes a mindset. Awakening this youth is about protecting our present and preparing for a sustainable future.

🌍 24 janvier | Journée internationale de l’éducation

Autour du Parc National des Virunga, l’éducation a un goût particulier. Ici, apprendre c’est aussi comprendre ce qui nous entoure : la forêt, l’eau, la biodiversité… et les défis climatiques qui touchent nos communautés.

Cette année, le thème est : « Le pouvoir de la Jeunesse dans la co-création de l’éducation »

Chez UCCND ASBL, nous voyons chaque jour que les jeunes ne sont pas l’avenir seulement. Ils sont déjà une force d’action aujourd’hui.

Dans les écoles riveraines du Parc, nous travaillons avec les enseignants et les élèves pour rendre l’éducation environnementale simple, concrète et utile :

✅ Ateliers de renforcement des capacités pour les enseignants

✅ Sensibilisation des élèves à la biodiversité du Virunga

✅ Actions pratiques : plantation d’arbres dans les écoles et dans les villages, un enfant qui plante un arbre n’oublie jamais ce geste.

C’est petit… mais ça change une mentalité. Réveiller cette jeunesse, c’est protéger notre présent et préparer un futur durable.
