We are proud to partner in Wâhkôhtowin-style community safety: an Indigenous-led approach that’s now being hailed as a model for Winnipeg public spaces.
As Winnipeg explores expanding this model across libraries and other civic sites, we see tremendous opportunity:
-to reduce punitive security practices
-to centre healing, relationship, and dignity
-to meaningfully employ those with lived experience
-to embed Indigenous knowledge into public service delivery
Let’s continue to advocate for models that bring safety through care, not control.
