The Pentastar "Swimming Pool": A 3.6L Tradition
If you’ve noticed a puddle of oil under your vehicle or the distinct smell of burning oil after a highway drive, you’re likely looking at the infamous Oil Filter Adapter Housing failure.
Located deep in the "V" of the engine block, this plastic housing is responsible for both filtering your oil and cooling it. Unfortunately, because the unit is made of plastic and sits directly on top of a hot engine, the constant heat cycles eventually warp the body or crack the seals.
The Symptoms:
• Oil pooling in the engine valley (the "swimming pool" effect).
• Oil dripping down the back of the transmission.
• Low oil pressure warnings or mysterious oil loss without a visible leak on the upper engine.

That is a classic Ford "gotcha" fix. The 5.0L Coyote and 6.2L engines are notorious for those plastic Y-pipes cracking or the O-rings flattening out, usually right when the weather turns cold. Moving to the aluminum housing is a "one and done" repair that actually outlasts the truck.
