In an effort to create art in a way that AI can't I've gone back to capturing live off the floor performances, direct into the camera.
"Cameracore" is the idea of using the camera as a performance element as well as recording device. My "rules" are that there must be at least one camera angle change, no after effects, only one edit allowed; from the beginning or end (if necessary).
I've often felt that my song's "demos" captured a more pure emotional expression than polished versions. The imperfections and unfettered cathartic relinquishment of the true basis for the piece coming out more obviously in these raw takes than a polished and over practiced performance ever could. Many of these are improvised, but also, in recording myself, I often mess up the recording, (it always seems my best takes are inevitably missed) as I finish, panting and sweating, my satisfaction from making it through immediately crushed in realizing, yet again, another great take is gone, as well as my energy to capture it. So sometimes I need to wait some time before trying again.
