Our history...the spirit of compassion gave rise to CARTS in August 2003. The volunteers of our group have a long history of ministering to those in Victoria's inner city. Over the years we have developed a reputation of trust and respect by those we have served. Members of
a variety of other helping agencies recognize and respect our work. We transport our food, drink and other items in small garden carts that inspired the name of our outreach ministry! Our philosophy... Our passion is to reach out to others in love and compassion. We believe that everyone deserves to be treated non-judgmentally, with dignity and respect. We are a small, inter-denominational, non-profit charity consisting of volunteers dedicated to fulfilling our mission: To feed, embrace and inspire others with the Spirit of God
Who do we serve? Following in the footsteps of Jesus, we reach out with love and respect to anyone in need on the streets of Victoria. Our outreach occurs when other agencies are closed, every Sunday evening from 4:30 – 7:00. We walk Victoria’s downtown streets from Queens & Douglas to Centennial Square and Wharf and Johnson Street. How can you get involved? You can get involved or contribute in a number of ways. You can pray for this wonderful and exciting ministry. Some contribute financially, other prefer to volunteer their time and talents on the street, or behind the scenes making cookies. Still other choose to donate specific needed items such as:
Food items:
Hot chocolate, iced tea, lemonade powders, Single-serving juice boxes,
Granola or fruit bars, Treat-sized chocolate bars, Chocolate chips for the cookies. Clothing items:
Socks, Toques, gloves, or scarves, Blankets and sleeping bags. Other items:
Backpacks
Ziplock sandwich bags
Toothbrushes and paste
Bar soap
Bus tickets
Feminine hygiene products
Combs
Facecloths
Travel-sized hand sanitizer,
shampoo, conditioner or lotion
(perhaps collected while traveling ). We embrace those we meet with our caring and loving regard for their well-being. We provide an assortment of food safe items including a beverage, fruit and homemade cookies. The drink we offer is cool lemonade in the summer, and hot chocolate (with mini marshmallows) in the winter. How can you contribute financially? CARTS OUTREACH is registered with Canada Revenue Agency and issues tax-deductible receipts for financial donations. We welcome donations of any amount in the form of cash or cheque.
