Video of Blue Bed, completely made of cyanotypes

12/08/2021

My blue bed (fall 2021). Cyanotypes printed on various cotton based material.

“The best parts of my days are spent in my bed. This is the space most molded to my body, the space where I feel most held. When in my bed, I am in contact with objects that hold traces of myself, objects that have a record and a history with the form of my body. Through touch and time, my pillows and mattress have become an extension of myself, and are an alternate space that I go to and float within, no longer feeling the continuous separation between my body and objects, between my body and the rest of the world.

The process of cyanotype making is done through a similar means of prolonged contact and touch. The medium allows me to create a canvas which holds visual traces of bodies and objects. By making cyanotypes, I have built an environment shaped by contact, where objects and body traces exist on the same field. Viewers are invited to rest and find form floating inside the work. As viewers interact with the space, the cyanotypes will fade away in places of prolonged contact, creating new impressions and records of other bodies.”
