This month’s featured artist at Gibraltar Point is Alessandra Abballe!
“My name is Alessandra Abballe and I am an image-based artist, writer and educator currently living, working and making as an uninvited settler on Turtle Island. Rooted in photography and image-based practices, my work extends to an engagement with personal and public archives, video, needlework, textiles and ceramics. Most recently, I’ve been interested in experimenting with obfuscating and illegible visual tactics in my work as both aesthetic praxis and as a productive and generative means of refusal. I’m keen on mining sticky or muddy feelings and seeing what can be done with them.
My time at Gibraltar Point Centre as part of the Undisciplined Residency cohort was so many things all at once, but what made it most special was having the opportunity to live and work alongside a group of 18 wickedly smart, talented and lovely artists. It was a week rooted in learning and making within a community, sweetly punctuated by ekphrastic offerings, quiet mornings, shaking and moving, collective sewing, sublime sunrises and sunsets and being undisciplined in the best ways. Mic and Kelsey () are too good and Gibraltar is magic!”

This month’s featured artist at Gibraltar Point is Cozmic Cat!
“I am Cozmic Cat, a Toronto based House Music Producer and DJ. The music I create lives in the gap between emotion and expression, manifesting as a vibrant celebration of cozmic energy. It’s my mission to spread joy through music and ignite dance floors worldwide.
I am working on what started out as an album and has now morphed into a series of multiple singles and remixes that are currently being reviewed by E.U record labels.
My residency experience was transformative, allowing me the space and quiet time to focus deeply on my creative practice. The healing energy of the Island in winter is exactly what I needed, as someone who expends so much energy as a performer and independent artist in the City. The other artists were wonderful to chat with, share ideas and discuss their practices. It was an honor to be in the space.”
