It’s a bittersweet feeling when you finish supporting a family.

You feel joy witnessing a baby’s growth and watching parents step into confidence. But there’s also a quiet sadness, knowing you won’t see them weekly or celebrate their little milestones in the same way.

As doulas, we are given the honor of being part of such a sacred chapter in a family’s life. Deep bonds form, the kind that stay written on your heart.

Every baby and family teaches me something new. I leave each experience feeling expanded in love and understanding. 💛

🪻Holy Basil (Tulsi) 🪻

This is my favorite herb — truly.
I have holy basil every day, and it’s one of the plants I return to again and again for steadiness and grounding.

Holy basil is known for supporting emotional balance and helping the nervous system soften after long periods of stress. It feels protective, centering, and quietly strengthening.

This is where holy basil really shines. After birth, when hormones shift and emotions are close to the surface, it can offer gentle support for mood, resilience, and nervous system recovery.

I approach this plant gently and usually reserve it for **after birth**.

Our society often paints birth as this scary, painful ordeal that women can’t handle without intervention. But that’s just not true!

In Canada, C-section rates have jumped from 17.6% in 1995/96 to 27.9% in 2015/16, and inductions increased from 12.9% in 1991/92 to 21.8% in 2004/05. Many of these interventions aren’t medically necessary and often lead to more interventions.

Birth is a natural process your body was designed to do. With the right support, so many women can experience birth confidently—without fear and without the pressure to “fix” what isn’t broken.

You were made for this. Birth doesn’t have to be something to fear; it’s something to embrace.
