I recently witnessed the cherry blossom ritual as hundreds of people descended on a park near our home. There were traffic jams and more people than I’ve ever seen on this usually quiet stretch of road. But even more astounding was everyone taking photos under the trees. I learned that this ritual symbolizes renewal, hope and new beginnings.

For me, the magnolia tree in our front yard is the equivalent as we watch it bud and blossom to its full glory. It’s a joy to see—and a wonderful reminder of hope, renewal and new beginnings, especially at this time of year.

I’ve found myself seizing not just the day, but the moment—not out of fear, but out of awareness.

Recently, that’s been tied to weather which here (as in other places) has been mercurial. We don’t quite know what the day will bring, so when it brings sun, we embrace it as Urmas and I did with a ride on a few recent warm days.

But this is just one of countless examples that can range from taking time out to listening to birdsong or dancing in a burst of energy to doing something bigger that’s been on your mind and/or heart.
