🧐 Sometimes I wonder if I do people a bit of a disservice by not showing the harder side of my work.

➡️ If you are looking in from the outside…it all looks like it is working seamlessly.

🏡I show homes, help people negotiate, I sell homes, I help seniors talk things through and see the bigger picture. Sounds easy right?

⏰ Not everyday…everything is not easy EVERYDAY.

😩 Stress happens. Challenges show up. And it's because of what I have learned in the last 20 years of business, that helps me juggle it all.

✏️ I have learned to manage stress differently. I have a 5 minute rule…where I can consume myself with worry or tears for 5 minutes..After that, I have to put in the pile marked “Out of my control”. Or the pile marked “Will this be of importance in 5 years”. Because if I don't, more things will fall apart.

🕦 This 5 minute rule…doesn’t imply that I don’t care…Its quite the opposite. I care so much that I can’t let things that are out of my control take any more of my energy.

📆 Every day challenges happen…deals flop, home inspections fail, a senior client is rushed to hospital due to a fall…and it doesn’t stop there.

🏠 Life at home also requires me to be present. A lot of the patience I bring to my work comes from my life at home. I help care for my 86-year-old mom while also supporting a young adult with special needs.

🆘 Living in those two worlds at the same time teaches you very quickly that life doesn’t move on neat schedules. Plans change. Energy shifts. Some days require more patience than others.

➡️ But in both worlds I get to also witness some small and big wins. Such as….

🎯My clients move to a smaller home and call me to say they love it there
🎯An adult son comes to a meeting that reassures the parents that they are supported.
🎯I get to have coffee with my recently widowed client and I see her smiling as she recounts the memories she holds dear to her heart.
🎯My son remembers to take his pro-biotic to program
🎯My mom is happy that her children are coming over for dinner

❤️ My work is not always easy…but it is meaningful.

😊 It’s also a constant reminder that people need time, understanding, and the space to move through big life transitions in their own way.

💪 And that perspective shows up in the work I do with seniors who are downsizing. Because when someone is leaving a home filled with decades of memories, the most important thing I can offer isn’t speed — it’s steadiness, compassion, and the ability to walk beside them through it. 💙

The biggest concern wasn’t the decluttering or the people coming through the house.

It was something much bigger.

They feared that their friends and family would think less of them if they went to a smaller home.

It’s the judgment and whispers they worried about.

Sad but true.

I took time to help them understand that their identity is not attached to the square footage. And slowly they began to think differently.
