It’s a common story for personal brands. They feel the limits of being the individual behind the business and start a sister brand.

I partnered once again with Julia B. Lindsey to do just that.

Julia’s goal was to build a brand larger than her personal footprint. Under Aligned Literacy, she plans to bring in other industry experts to scale their mission to improve literacy education across North America.

The goal for this brand was to design a visual identity that felt unique, while keeping a thread of visual continuity to her personal brand as there would be lots of brand cross-over.

We knew the easiest way to visually connect the two brands would be through colour. 🎨 So we used the same colour palette, assigning new roles and guidelines and giving this sister brand its own distinct colour story.

With this business leaning more into the virtual realm, the visual identity needed to drive an engaging digital experience. We infused more personality and functionality through a curated typography suite, all while continuing to prioritize web accessibility where it matters most.

To round out the digital experience, I designed custom graphics, adding a layer of character, charm, and experiential continuity across every screen. 😎

Thinking about starting a sister-brand? Consider this your sign.

The DIY benchmark has been raised because of AI. Suddenly, every entrepreneur has the tools and resources to develop a decent brand and create decent marketing content on their own.

Before AI, there used to be—in my opinion—three distinct tiers of brand:
I. The DIYer
II. The mid-level entrepreneur
III. The premium professional

AI has raised the baseline, merging the DIY and mid-level entrepreneurs into one super concentrated group with less obvious distinction.

So now the goal isn’t just to break away from the DIY category, it’s to break out of this saturated AI-generated space.

And this is where the majority of entrepreneurs exist now.

The words used by brands are sounding all too similar which has led to a lot more scrutiny over which brands are being truly authentic.

The reality is, the vast majority of us are using AI in different capacities of our business. So we are becoming more skeptical about how much of any one business has been AI-made.

What you need to do—or rather—what you need to ask yourself is:

→ what do I need to do to break out of the space that everyone else is occupying?

→ What do I need to do to create my brand to not look, feel, or sound like everyone else’s?

👀 Sneak peek — except this time it’s for MY rebrand. 🤗

Over the last two months, I’ve been working with the incredibly talented Kat of B Super Design to rebrand my Studio.

I'd long been an admirer of her illustrative style and wanted to add a more fun personality to my own brand experience. We kept the original monogram that’s been with me since day one but now with added creativity and playfulness.

I’ve just begun the process of transitioning my entire business into this new brand identity. There’s so much to do and so little time to do it.

But I can’t wait to share it all with you!

For too long in business, I did everything myself. I refused to seek support, big or small.

Back then I would claim it was because I was “fiercely independent”. 😆

But really, I was just introverted and completely winging it.

When you’re just starting out as a business owner, you’re trying to earn credibility as an entrepreneur. My thinking was that by asking for help, I was I admitting I didn’t really know what I was doing.

But the best entrepreneurs know the best way to get where you’re going is by surrounding yourself with support.

What took me too long to realize was how much value you get from conversations with someone outside of your business.

They will offer a different perspective.
They see what you can't.

Two brains are always better than one. You just need to ask.

This is why I’m introducing Studio Hours for select Friday mornings in June.

You’re already asking a robot for feedback and guidance. Why not ask a real human? 💁🏻‍♀️

Grab one of my Studio Hour spots on June 12th or 26th and pick my brain.

Working on a a new offer creative or campaign? Get my designer eye on it!

Refining your messaging or revisiting your brand foundation? I’ll give you my strategist’s two cents, if you will. 😊

Honestly, Fridays in June should be light and fun. And that’s half the reason I’m doing this right now. 🤙 So join me free for Studio Hours right here → https://calendar.app.google/kvAs5ha1GBwKRtAR8
