There is no winning or losing when separating. Instead, we encourage you to contemplate outcomes and what this means to you. We help explore what family and financial restructuring involves and assist in understanding how to get there.
How do we do this?
1) We help construct a clear plan of parenting time to ensure stability for the children. Kids are resilient and this is borne from planning and structure. Careful thought and consideration go into this with a robust and detailed parenting plan. While parenting agreements are meant to be flexible, they are also enforceable and can be revisited with the ages and stages of the children.
2) How are you going to manage dividing assets and liabilities and what to do with the matrimonial home are burning questions at the forefront. While there is a math prescribed by law, we offer creative and thoughtful approaches which are explored.
3) Income relates to both child and spousal support. We spend a lot of time to ensure you understand how support is calculated and what this means from a cash flow perspective for both parties.
While we do not offer legal advice on these matters, we work hard to help you understand all the pieces to consider in your separation agreement before you consult a lawyer. With knowledge, you will feel more informed about the process and we are confident this will reduce your legal fees.
We are here to offer compassion and strategic guidance. We look forward to offering you clarity through this very stressful time.

In my books, February 14th honours all the people out there who were brave enough to end a relationship or have the courage to deal with coping of the loss, or both.
Valentine’s day can be tough for many and I encourage you to focus on the love and admiration of youself. Embrace the power of being in charge of your own future and the beauty that lies in the unknown.
The calendared day of love is an opportunity to show this all to yourself with intention. Do it big and do it courageously.
And hell ya, buy yourself some chocolates and eat the whole box.

Given the current economic state, some clients separating are very concerned about a few things. Some top questions and our answers;
1. What if we cannot sell our house?
“Agreements can contemplate a future sale of the home. Detailed and careful consideration of timing can be addressed with review clauses.”
2. Rentals are so hard to come by. What do we do about continuing to live together?
“A nesting arrangement can be discussed and/or a clear plan of time spent with the children while in the home together can be drafted.”
3. Interest rates are through the roof and I cannot even think about borrowing money to buy my partners interest in the matrimonial home. What do we do?
“Buyout amounts of the home could perhaps be paid over time if both parties agree.”
While this does not constitute as legal advice, we work hard with clients to think creatively and purposefully before consulting with a lawyer.
Let’s talk about it.

Digging deep in to a BOLD 2023
OK, we all know the struggles of the past 2 1/2 years and I honestly can’t wait for 2023. While there has been a slow burn happening in the economy which cannot be ignored, let us try and white knuckle it with optimism and fortitude.
The learnings over the past year have been monumental. With a loss of a parent and the lack of connection through COVID and their health decline really stung to say the least. I am grateful to have been there post pandemic and in the last days. I could not help but think of all the people who were not able to say goodbye to loved ones in the last couple of years. How was that even allowed to happen I ask myself. Alas, we persevere and move forward.
My mother’s passing taught me forgiveness and humbled my approach not only in the way I live but how I move in the world and my relationships both personally and in my business practice. In that I mean with more grace, understanding and patience. It’s not perfect but I now work every day on gratitude and living in the moment. I think we can all agree this is challenging but oh so necessary.
That all said, let us start by saying ‘YES’ to ONLY good things this year. Not ‘OK’, not ‘sure’ but YES. Yes, is not to be underrated. When you say this, it actually means commitment; it means you feel the commitment and you are going for it. There is a reason the ‘Getting to Yes’ book was a national best seller.
So, what does commitment look like for you in 2023? And I don’t mean New Year’s resolutions. Typically, but not always, resolutions are based on guilt, remorse and short-term thinking.
Let us allow ourselves to think long term about what heathy steps can be taken to find freedom. I am a believer that in any struggle lies healing and to dig deep on this. And, saying ‘NO’ to self-negative thinking, negative people and social environments can free us. This includes media and the government approach noise. Turn off the news and limit social media feeds. This is a great start.
Hell yes! I am ready to knock 2023 out of the park and I look forward to doing this with my cherished family/friends and my clients whom I am so grateful to work with and appreciate their trust through their most stressful times.
Stay authentic and stay connected!

Brilliant movie on Netflix. This psychiatrist discusses tools on how to address vulnerability, change and loss among many others things. His approach is one of action and the movie opens with him stating ‘you must do exactly as I tell you…’. A welcome change to the therapeutic approach in my view. An absolute must watch.
