Started on two new pieces for the upcoming Summer Group Show at this July. Both are 12x12 oil paintings inspired by some of my favourite places in Toronto.

Today I put another layer down on this painting of the Shameful Tiki Room (first location). Still pretty loose at this stage and still a ways to go. Gotta do those details proud… but first, it needs to dry.

I’ve always loved all things tiki — I even had a tiki-themed wedding. I painted this because of the energy of places like this. Dark lighting, warm colours everywhere and chill music… a tropical escape that takes you somewhere else for a few hours when you walk in.

Not to mention the cocktails. I’m obsessed with their Painkiller cocktail — no, really. I’ve already painted two of them and have to order one every time I go.
