After gestating for a number of years, we present a complex and detailed world built for artistic pleasure and creative output. In over 30 years of research we have amassed a wealth of personal photos, out-of-print magazines, rare catalogues, videocassettes, and album covers. We incorporate this material, inspired by legendary poster and album cover artists like Pedro Bell, Mati Klarwein, and Tada
nori Yokoo into each of our limited edition prints using a combination of photography, screen printing, photocopying and digital scans. Photoshop and Illustrator are used in the final production stages adding descriptions and titles that are stamped with our own language. Music has always been our main focal point. We continuously champion forward thinking music alongside under-appreciated rarities. Having made well over a hundred mixes during the last 25 years, those found here represent the best of the past decade. Though rooted in Toronto, you can hear signals from London, Detroit, Chicago, New York, L.A. and beyond. What emerges is a sound with a distinct ethos; propulsive rhythms creating something new and urgent, a synthesis of cosmopolitan and world cultures; a blend of soul and funk tinged with the jagged edges of new wave and avant-garde techno, and a merging of hypnotic, post-house, and boogie. Another focus at Third Atlantic is researching and documenting, historical and contemporary underground culture. Here you will find articles related to music, dance, visual art, race, and the importance of criticism in the context of our social history. We present information that has relevance to the world we live in, addressing issues that relate to the interests of our broader community. We provide an introductory context that contributes to and inspires an ongoing conversation where there are no definitive answers but rather ideas that need to be rethought again and again in light of changing trends.
